Dumpster available for scrap metal donations

For those who missed their chance to help clean up Conewango Creek on Saturday or who are unable to help with the Allegheny River Cleanup later this week, there is another option.

A dumpster is now available to take scrap metal as donations to the clean-up program through Sunday, Sept. 19, at AutoZone in North Warren.

According to Volunteer Nate Welker, donations of metal — metal only, please — placed in the dumpster will be scrapped and the proceeds used to fund equipment, fuel, and other needs of future clean-up events.

The 12th annual Conewango Creek Cleanup is in the books, but there is still time to register for the 13th annual Allegheny River Clean-up Sept. 16 through 18.

Those interested in participating may register at alleghenyrivercleanup.com.

Over the years, over 820 cubic yards of trash, about 70 tons of recyclable metal, and about 17,000 tires, among other types of pollution, have been removed from the waterways and the watersheds.

Starting at $3.50/week.
