Scholarship Fund helps local students

The Blair Scholarship Fund continues to help local students on their educational journeys.

The scholarships are awarded to employee’s family members.

It was established with a $25,000 check from a supplier and a matching donation from Blair Corporation in 1989.

“Through the years, the Blair Scholarship Fund received the donations of company employees as well as donations from departments celebrating milestone events and occasions with fund raisers,” Community Foundation of Warren County Executive Director John Lasher said. The Community Foundation administers the fund.

“The generosity of Blair employees to support this company benefit has been truly amazing and very gratifying,” retired Blair CEO and Chairman Murray McComas said. “We are so pleased to be able to support the families of our employees with this wonderful benefit.”

“Since then, the Blair Employee Family Scholarship Fund has awarded over $2.5 million in scholarships,” Lasher said. “For the 2021-2022 academic year the Blair Scholarship Committee awarded $176,000 in scholarships to 22 students, the children of Blair employees.”

There are eight new recipients of the scholarship this year: Delaney Chase (St. Bonaventure University); Mikayla Eyler (Mercyhurst University); Cassandra Guiffre (Slippery Rock University); Rebecca Henry (University of Pittsburgh at Bradford); Elizabeth Strausser (Mercyhurst); Adam McChesney (Slippery Rock); Dillon Benson (Allegheny College) and Jason Bonavita (University of Pittsburgh: Swanson School of Engineering).

Those who continue to receive scholarship funding include: Jared Bupp, Edinboro University; Madison Gray, Clarion University; Mitchell Grosch, Mercyhurst; Kylee Hennessy, Jamestown Community College; Zane Olsen, Pennsylvania College of Technology; Adrianna Pierce, Mercyhurst; Chyann Rose, Pitt-Bradford; Marcus Bonavita, Indiana University of Pennsylvania; Trinity Wennberg, Seton Hill University; Mikhyle Fehlman, Penn State University; Lexie Grubbs, Penn Tech; Cade McChesney, Edinboro; and Dalton Ulbrich, Edinboro.
