RDA grants time to blighted property owners

The Warren County Redevelopment Authority will generally give owners of blighted property time if they’re working to clean up their properties.

That trend held for a series of properties discussed at Tuesday morning’s meeting.

Authority chair Chuck Barone stressed the RDA is “not here to push anyone around” when making an effort.

The most discussion on Tuesday centered around a Pleasant Township property located at 1465 Route 62. The new owner, Brad Mason, apologized for “overgrowth” at the site but said the main structure is, in his view, solid.

“My plans for the property is my family camp,” he told the RDA, explaining that he purchase the property because of an affinity for 4-wheeling and its location.

“If it wasn’t for the backyard being the Allegheny National Forest, it wouldn’t have interested me,” he said. “This one,” he added, “hasn’t worked out as I hoped.”

He guaranteed mowing at the site and discussed rubbish spread around the site.

“(We are) not looking for a time deadline,” Barone said. “(We) just want to see progress.”

The RDA gave him additional 90 days before it will again review the property.

Action was tabled on properties located at 61 2nd Mill St., Sheffield as well 58 Bush Ln. in Tidioute. The RDA was informed there are demolition plans for the property at 109 Oak St., Sheffield, while efforts will continue to identify who owns 6 Railroad St. in Clarendon.

Starting at $4.00/week.
