Chapman State Park’s schedule is filling up.

On Saturday, the park is teaming up with the Martz-Kohl Observatory and Project Director Tom Traub on a Drive-In Night Sky event.

Traub will guide participants through the essentials of stargazing and point out the points of interest.

If conditions are good, all of the inner planets will be visible.

Those interested in signing up may contact Moore at (814) 723-0259 or jennmoore@pa.gov.

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

There is a full slate of events at the park set for Memorial Day weekend.

On Saturday, there will be Nature Scavenger Hunts from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. starting at the amphitheater.

From 8 to 9 p.m., there will be movie night: Pennsylvania’s Vernal Ponds, also at the ambhitheater. No registration is required for any Saturday events, but those attending the movie are asked to bring a chair and flashlight.

There will be a non-denominational chapel service at 10 a.m. Sunday at the amphitheater – or pavilion 4 in case of rain.

Family Fishing is on schedule from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 3 p.m. “Join the park naturalist for… fishing on a newly stocked lake,” Moore said.

Poles and bait are provided and fishing licenses are not required.

The safaris will run from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Monday. “Find out about salamanders of Pennsylvania; where they live, what they eat, what makes them so unique, and where to find them.”

Participants will need shoes that they won’t mind getting wet in Penny Run.

Those planning to participate in Family Fishing or Salamander Safaris are asked to register by contacting Moore.

Starting at $3.50/week.
