Recent trend continues with few new COVID cases
There were five new cases of COVID-19 and no new deaths reported for Warren County Monday and Tuesday.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health’s latest statistics show a total of 2,110 cases so far in Warren County. That is five more than the 2,105 reported on Sunday. There was no update on Monday due to Presidents Day.
The number of COVID-related deaths in the county remained at 95 — unchanged since Thursday, Feb. 4. At the end of January, there had been 91 COVID deaths reported in the county. The county’s death toll grew by 65 last month, with deaths being reported on 24 of the 31 days.
The number of COVID-positive patients at Warren General Hospital did not change since Sunday – remaining at three, with none on ventilators and none in intensive care.
For the first time in months, the county’s level of community transmission was reported as moderate by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
Warren County has been in the highest of three categories — substantial — since the week ending Nov. 13, the last time it was moderate. Two weeks before that — the week ending Oct. 30 — the county was in the low category.
Dropping into the moderate category does not have any immediate impacts on Warren County School District.
According to Superintendent Amy Stewart, a second consecutive week of moderate transmission will mean the district would not have to shut down schools for two days automatically when a certain threshold of positive cases is reached. Sheffield schools had to close for two days last week under the rules for areas of substantial transmission.
