School district to offer meals for pickup

There are still school meals available for students. With the students not in the buildings for the next month, it’s just a little harder to get meals and students together.

Starting today, Warren County School District will offer pickup of several days of meals twice per week at all of its school buildings – except the Warren County Career Center.

“The WCSD will begin offering free breakfasts and lunches on Monday, Dec. 14, to children 18 years of age or younger, in an effort to provide access to nutritious meals during the move to virtual instruction,” Candy Rieder of the Nutrition Group said.

Meal service will continue for any students who are in the buildings and weekend packs will be available to those students at the end of every week.

For district students who are not in the schools and anyone else under the age of 18, five-day packs of breakfasts and lunches will be handed out on Monday, Dec. 14, Wednesday, Dec. 16, and Monday, Dec. 21.

“There will be no meal pick-ups from Dec. 23 through Jan. 3,” Rieder said. We will resume meal distribution on Jan. 4.”

Pickup locations include: the front bus entrance door at Beaty-Warren Middle School; the second front door entrance at Warren Area Elementary Center; the student bus entrance at Warren Area High School; the student bus entrance at Eisenhower Elementary/Middle/High School; the front door at Youngsville Elementary School; the front door at Youngsville Middle/High School; and the front cafeteria bus entrance door at Sheffield Area Elementary/Middle/High School.

Pickup times are from 10 a.m. to noon and 4:15 to 5:30 p.m.

Each meal will contain an entree, fruit, vegetable, and milk.

“No sign-up is necessary to receive these meals,” Rieder said. “Staff may ask for student names to meet state and federal requirements. Parents and Students may pick up meals at any school location.”

“Please call 814-723-5200 ext.1602 if you have any questions on meal service,” Rieder said. “Any changes to the program will be posted on the district website and Facebook page. Your participation is appreciated, as it helps the district with funding in these difficult times.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
