58 new cases in county
Warren County had 59 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Monday and 116 new total cases since Friday.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health also added one COVID-related death to the data over the weekend, bringing that total to two.
The Times Observer reported on Saturday that Coroner Melissa Zydonik confirmed three COVID-related deaths in the county last week. The department reported the first COVID-related death in the county in July.
That there is a lag between the coroner’s confirmation and an announcement by the Department of Health is not unusual, according to a statement from the department’s communications office.
“Data often is not finalized on our end until the death case is finalized,” a spokesperson said. “In addition, local coroners may have this data before it reaches the department. We would anticipate the data matching later in the week.”
According to the department’s COVID dashboard, there had been 498 total cases in the county as of Monday, with 435 of those confirmed and 63 probable. On Friday when there were 382 cases — 334 confirmed and 48 probable.
Zip codes with the most significant numbers of new cases since Friday include: Warren — 56 confirmed, two probable; Youngsville –10 and six, Sugar Grove — nine; Clarendon — five; and Spring Creek, Sheffield, Russell, and Bear Lake with four each.
There were more positive tests than negative results over that span — the department reported 5,151 negatives as of Friday and 5,235 on Monday — a change of 84.
On Sunday, the department reported 376 confirmed cases.
Over the weekend, the county surpassed 1,000 cases per 100,000 population — or one case for every 100 residents. The new rate is 1,260.8 per 100,000.
The statistics indicate there were 18 COVID patients at Warren General Hospital on Monday. None of them were in intensive care and none were on ventilators, according to the department.
