Warren Explorers show sharp law enforcement skills at conference

The Warren Explorer Post placed in every event at the 17th annual Law Enforcement Exploring Day Conference.
“The conference includes seven team scenarios which are designed to provide realistic and practical experience to prepare Explorers for the types of situations they would have to face in law enforcement careers,” City of Warren Police Chief and Explorer Advisor Brandon Deppen said. “The scenarios included traffic stop; DUI traffic stop; domestic intervention; unknown call; mental health call; officer down; and building stop. There were also individual events — the super physical/mental agility station; oral interview board; and the Civil Service Exam.”
The Explorers who attended the event in Williamsville, N.Y., were: Dillon Winters; Chazz Jewell; Garrett Abbott; Post Chief Derick Nowacki; Lt. Lucas Rizzard; Sgt. Zach Nugent; and Jacob Hayes.
Other posts attending the conference were: Buffalo Police Department; Cheektowaga Police Department; Town of Towanda Police Department; and Erie County Sheriff’s Office.
The Warren Post had three teams of two. Nowacki teamed up with an Explorer from the Cheektowaga post.
Nowacki and his partner placed third in officer down; third in mental health call; first in domestic dispute; second in traffic stop; second in DUI traffic stop; and third in unknown call.
Rizzardi and Nugent placed first in traffic stop; second in domestic dispute; and second in unknown call.
Abbott and Jewell placed fourth in domestic dispute.
Individually, Nowacki placed fourth in the Civil Service Exam; and second in the oral interview board. Nugent placed third in oral interview board. Abbott took fifth in Civil Service Exam. Hayes was third in super physical/mental agility.
