Superintendent resigns
The Warren County School District will again be on the hunt for a new superintendent.
That’s in the wake of Superintendent Dr. William Clark tendering his resignation, effective June 30 of next year, to the school board on Monday night.
“I have decided not to seek renewal of my contract when it expires in June of next year,” Clark told the board. “It’s time for me to continue with some changes that are already underway in my life. Closing my duties as Superintendent of Warren County School District, next year, is the right step for me.”
Clark was inked to a five-year contract in June, 2013 when the board appointed him to the position.
Last April, the board stripped him of responsibilities related to personnel and policy formation and handed them to Amy Stewart, who was named executive director.
Additionally, two years were struck from the length of the contract which “falls within the matters that Bill (Clark) wished to remain private,” Board President Donna Zariczny said at the time.
On Monday, Zariczny thanked Clark for the advanced notice and said that the board will be taking some time to figure out how to move ahead. That could include in-house candidates as well as outside candidates and the possible use of a consultant to gather an applicant pool.
Board Vice-President Arthur Stewart made a motion to accept his resignation with the June 30 effective date.
The motion was passed unanimously, with Board member Tom Knapp voting “reluctantly, yes.”
In making his resignation, Clark offered a reflection on his time in the district.
“I am impressed by the warmth and dignity I encountered every day, he said. “I spend a great deal of time in the classrooms; I see the teachers and students who are proud of their schools; I see students who are well served by high-quality teaching; and I see communities which provide extraordinary support to the schools sports, music, and other programs that help each school give a well-rounded experience which, in my mind, marks an excellent learning experience.”
Clark said that he believed he has “met the test of leaving a District that has enjoyed improvement while I am at the helm. During my tenure, we successfully closed out the Eisenhower and Sheffield construction project, and Warren project launched successfully this summer. I introduced the RTII early intervention strategy, and we are seeing successes with our youngest and most at-risk students which may justify an expansion of the program. I planted the seed for the idea of the BackPack food program and with the help of a fantastic group of volunteers and contributors we are making a real difference for students in need. I plan to continue working on these projects and fulfilling my other duties, until the closure of my contract next year.”
He also took the opportunity to thank “the Board of Directors and my fellow administrators for making my time here rewarding. I have found the board to be very professional and educationally focused, which creates a healthy and positive work environment. I am also thankful for my fell administrators; as district needs unfolded they have been there to assist in seeing the educational opportunities flourish for the district.
“Most importantly, I want to thank the Warren County community for receiving me as a member of your fine community. I look back on my time here with fondness, and I thank all of you for that experience. I wish everyone the best; and from the vantage point I now occupy, I have every reason to believe the future is very bright for education in the Warren County School District.”
