Brown started helping Mrs. Chase at the Library when it was located in the back of Emerson’s Barber Shop which later became Heenan’s Insurance office. The library was started in 1921. That was when they worked with the old Dewey Decimal system and card files with a pay of only 50 cents per hour. There were only four other librarians with Tootie being the fifth one.

Tootie has lived her entire life in Tidioute and is married to Bill Brown.
Brown became the librarian when Mrs. Chase retired and served for 26 years and served for 30 years on the Library board.
Mrs. Brown was always there for the patrons of the library. She truly loved her job and it reflected in her performance and knowledge. she was willing to work with Warren Library in keeping Tidioute up on the current books that were available that Tidioute could have for loan to its patrons. She was always interested in the board and its preceding’s and how the money was spent, making sure it was spent wisely.
Prior to her retiring as librarian, she would keep saying she would stay one more year.
Library president Bob Schwab presented her with a watch for her years of services along with a card signed by all the board members .
Elizabeth Nicholson took over as librarian when Tootie retired.
Members of the board include: Bob Schwab-President, Howard Klingenburg-Vice President, Fran Stoneburg-Secretary, Carol Benner-Treasurer, Elizabeth Nicholson, Kelly McKean, Cindy Lindemuth and Candy Druggan. Tootie has officially retired now from the board.
