Flu Shots

Tidioute Senior Center will be holding a Flu Shot Clinic at the Senior Center on Monday, October 19, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Participants are asked to bring a Medicare card. Cash payments are $30 each.

George Jones Memorial Walleye Tournament

The 19th Annual George Jones Memorial Walleye Tournament will be held on Saturday, Oct. 3.

This is two-person team fishing and the boundaries are from Kinzua Dam to President.

Fishing time begins at 7 a.m. and must stop at 4 p.m., and be at the weigh-in site by 5 p.m.

The boat operator must be at least 16 years old or older. If under 18, fisherpersons must furnish a parental consent. A life jacket must be worn while combustion engine is running.

Live bait or lures may be used.

Mandatory functional live well(s) capable of sustaining walleye.

No alcoholic beverages consumed on board during tournament hours.

Only six walleye per team can be weighed in; there will be a six-ounce penalty for each dead fish.

Teams not in to the weigh in station that will be located at Tidioute Boat Launch will be disqualified. All boats must check in at weigh in site.

All fish are property of the tournament committee and will be returned to the river.

Fall Gun Raffle

Tidioute Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting their annual Fall Gun Raffle on Saturday, November 28, at the Firehall.

Members are currently selling tickets for a cost of $10 each, which will include Cash Drawings and you must be present to win cash raffles.

Crop Walk

Tidioute will participate in the annual CROP Walk to help feed the hungry. Tidioute will receive 25 percent of funds collected and the money will be given to the Holiday Food Vouchers Committee.

Sign up and collection envelopes will be available from Tidioute Methodist Church, Presbyterian Church and at St. John Catholic Church or contact Mary Huntington at 484-7766.

If you do not want to walk but would like to make a monetary donation please make checks payable to CROP Hunger Walk and mail them to the Methodist Church, 206 Min St., Tidioute. Those wanting to walk can meet at Methodist Church on Sunday, October 11, at 2 p.m.

Holiday Lighting

There will be a meeting of any interested person in helping to decorate the town. This meeting will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, October 14, at Tidioute Library.

In 2014, the Holiday Lighting Committee sponsored a fundraiser event in order to purchase new banners for the light poles up and down Main Street.

The campaign was very successful and they were able to purchase all the required banners, the plaques and have the engraving completed. The plaques are now hanging in the Tidioute Library for all to see. The committee is deeply grateful for all the donations received.

There are still a few blank plate waiting to be engraved, therefore, First-Time Donors to the Holiday Lighting Fund will have the opportunity of having the name of a loved one engraved on one of the remaining blank plates and placed on either “In Honor Of” or “In Memorium” plaques.

Any donations can be sent payable to Holiday Lighting Committee and mailed to Sandy Jamieson, 52 Jefferson St, Tidioute.

Knights of Columbus

Tidioute Knights of Columbus will hold its regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, October 1, at St John Center.

All members are urged to attend.

Watson Township Cleanup

Watson Township residents and camp owners will have an opportunity to get rid of those unwanted items from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, October 3, at the township building.

The cost is $5 per vehicle. Passenger tires will be $2.50 each and larger ones will be $5 each.

Octoberfest

Tidioute Pub will be celebrating Octoberfest and Breast Cancer Awareness on Sunday, October 4, with fundraising for the Tidioute Ta Ta’s.

Pumpkin Chucking

The Pumpkin Chucking event will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, October 4, off Buckley Road, just follow the signs.

Blood Drive

American Red Cross will be at the Tidioute Community Charter School from 12:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday, October 15, or a Blood Drive.

Kids Derby Results

There were 58 kids fishing on Saturday morning at Benner Park and they brought in a total of 107 fish.

Shane Tillia, age 9, of Ellwood City, captured the first-place trophy with 35.5 inches of fish.

Second place went to Justin Krall, age 6, with 33.5 and third place went to Kaden Silvis, age 8, with 33 inches. There were three who tied for third and a drawing determined the winner.

The youngest fisherperson was Travis Stewart, age 3, who brought in 32.5 inches.

The new bicycle, donated by the Presbyterian Women’s Association, was won Joe Krall.

Ann Jones was the chairperson again this year and assisted by Donna Lanager, Jessica Sanders-Gray and Dick Bartges.

The Tidioute Lions Club purchased the trout from Farnsworth Trout Farm and Carmen Fedele and Randy Knight traveled to Farnsworth at 5 a.m. to bring the fish to Tidioute and stocked the Creek in time for the tournament.

Parade Results

There were 43 Units in the parade this year and several Zem Zem Shriners as this was a Point Parade.

Parade committee consisted of Marsha Brown and John and Nate Brown.

Parade winners were as follows: Floats-First Place- St John’s Women’s Guild, Second Place was Johnny Appleseed Festival, Third Place was Boondocks Antiques and More.

Drill Team was VFW Post 5958; Marching Band-Tidioute Community Charter School; Senior Drill Team-Dance Unlimited; Motorized Unit-Gold Wing Chapter Q Abate; Custom Vehicle- Am Vets Post 113; Horses Group-Hickory Creek Wilderness Ranch; Fire Equipment Best Pumper and Furthest Distance was West Hickory and Best Ambulance was Tidioute Fire Department

Judges were Jeff and Kathy Gray of Apollo, PA and they are All State Judges.

Community Service Awards

Fran Stoneburg was presented with the Female Recipient for all the years serving on Borough Council and her help with the Warren County Fire Police and other organizations.

Bill and Jane Downey were presented with the Community Service Award for all their volunteer time mowing the area between Rt 62 and 337 for the WWII Reenactment and other areas where needed, and for the use of his Kubota.

Drawing Winners

Grand Prize winner of the 16 GB Apple iPad Mini was Paulette Borusky, and the $250 cash went to Karen Nol.

Champion Angler Results

First-place winner in the Musky was Jake Gray with 13.61

Northern Pike first-place winner was Christian Sosinki with 13.83; Second Place-Derek Rapp with 10.92 and in Third Place was Steve Matechka with 10.83.

Walleye first-place was Darren Potts with 14.74, Second place was Justin Drukenbrod with 10.68 and Third place was won by Walt Stover with 7.6

Small Mouth Bass first-place winner was Frank Hopshire with 21.67; Second place was George Defrehn with 21.55; and in third place was Wade Adams with 19.83.

Trout first-place was Adam Barker with 7.95; second place was Brian Johnson with 7.03 and third place was Travis Larson with 6.44.

Lunker Awards went to Frank Hopshire with 4.94 Bass; Jake Gray with 13.61 Musky; Christian Sosinki with 13.83 Pike; Darren Potts with 3.33 Walleye and Adam Barker with 5.11 Trout.

Oldest Male bringing in fish was John Zajac, age 75, and the oldest female bring in fish was Jackie Burkhart, age 74.

Junior Champion Angler was Mitchell McDaid with 22.94 and, in second place, was Lexix Drukenbrod with 16.08 and third place was Blake Sabella with 10.66.

First-Place Champion Angler was Adam Barker with 24.32; in second place was George Defrehn with 19.31 and in third Place was Walt Stover with 18.81

There were 374 fisherpersons registered to fish this tournament.

Flu Shots

The Tidioute Senior Center will have a nurse from Kane Home Health present from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday, Oct. 19, administering flu shots. Recipients are asked to bring their Medicare Care and self pay is $30.

Carnival Time

The carnival rides and concession stands for the 56th Annual Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing Tournament will open at 6 p.m. Thursday, September 24.

Rides are being provided by Trowver of Gibsonton, Fla.

Rides and concessions will be open at 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday and at noon Saturday and Sunday.

Pre-sale ride tickets

Advanced ride tickets are on sale for $20 for 30 tickets and a chance to win a bicycle. Tickets are available at Boondocks Antiques, Buccardo’s Restaurant, Evans Market and Tidioute Trading Post.

Concert In Park

Tidioute is hosting another free concert in Picture Show Park from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, September 25.

Music will be provided by the band, “Day Old Soup, Original Recipe.”

This concert is sponsored by Tidioute Area Businesses in conjunction with Tidioute Borough.

Dime Pitch

Members of the Watson Grange located on Route 337 will be holding their annual Dime Pitch in a booth on tournament grounds Thursday through Sunday.

Kids Derby

The Kids Fishing Derby will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, September 26, in Tidioute Creek at Benner Park.

Tidioute Lions Club purchased the trout from Farnsworth Trout Farm and stocked the creek early this week.

Ann Jones and her crew will be there to measure the fish and award any prizes.

This contest is for boys and girls ages three to 10.

Junior Champion Angler

The Junior Champion Angler of the 56th Annual Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing Tournament will be crowned at 9 p.m. Saturday.

This person will receive a $50 US Savings Bond, sponsored by Jim and Betty Marshall.

Trophies are donated by the George Jones Memorial Walleye Tournament and the Jones family.

Champion Angler

The Champion Angler of the 56th Annual Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing Tournament will be announced at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 27, and the champion will receive $1,000 and a trophy. The second-place winner will receive $250 and a trophy and the third-place winner will receive $150 and a trophy.

Saturday’s Festivities

Fishing starts for the Champion Angler division at 12:01 a.m.

The Kids Derby at Benner Park from 9 to 11 a.m.

Parade registration is at 9 a. m. with the parade at 1 p.m.

The door prize drawing is at 8 p.m. You must be present to win.

All fishermen must be at weigh in their fish by 8 p.m.

Finalists are announced at 8:30 p.m.

The Junior Championship Angler will be crowned at 9 p.m.

Fireworks start at 9:45 p.m. Fireworks are being sponsored by Tidioute Trading Post and Servicemen’s Home Corp.

Sunday’s Festivities

Fishing for the final time begins at 5 a.m.

Grounds and concessions open at noon.

All entries must be at the weigh-in by 2 p.m.

The Champion Angler is announced and crowned at 3 p.m.

Closing ceremonies begin at 3:30 p.m.

All raffle winners will be announced and the drawing will be held for the bicycle.

Bake Sale

Tidioute United Methodist and Grand Valley Methodist Churches will be holding a bake sale at the church in the Fellowship Hall beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday, September 26.

There will be a large variety of homemade goodies, coffee and water.

Funnel Cake Booth

Tidioute Methodist Church will have the funnel cake booth open from Thursday to Sunday selling funnel cakes, hot sausage subs with or without peppers and onions, and meatball subs.

Take-outs are available.

Towers Bake Sale

Residents at Tidioute Towers will be holding a Bake Sale in front of the towers on the Main St. entrances.

The sale will be on Saturday morning prior to the start of the parade.

Loaded Potatoes

The Tidioute Community Charter School Sports Boosters will be selling “Loaded Potatoes” on tournament grounds this weekend to raise funds for the Sports Boosters.

The prices will vary based on your topping selections which include: butter, cheese sauce, shredded cheese, sour cream, jalapenos, bacon bits, broccoli and chili.

They will also have bottled pop, and bottled water.

Community birthday calendars will be on sale for $5 each.

Pierogi Sales

St. John Catholic Church in Tidioute will be selling cooked and frozen homemade potato and cheese Pierogis as a fundraiser from a booth at the Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing Tournament grounds on September 25, 26 and 27. Also, they will be selling pulled pork sandwiches.

Chainsaw Raffle

The ladies of St John Women’s Guild are selling tickets for a Stihl Chainsaw, Model MS271 with an 18-inch bar.

Tickets are $2 each or three for $5, and the drawing will be on Sunday, September 27, during closing ceremonies.

Guild members will be selling all weekend long on tournament grounds along with members of the Knights of Columbus whose members are raffling off a gun. Winners need not be present to win.

Parade Entries

Anyone wishing to still enter the fishing tournament parade can still enter at 9 a.m. Saturday, September 26, in front of the Tidioute Firehall on Main St., and there a position in the parade will be assigned to you.

There is no entry fee; participants just need to register and those who have already sent in a form will need to check in at the registration table.

There will be a fireworks display starting at 9:45 p.m. Saturday, September 26, thanks to the generosity of the Tidioute Trading Post and the Servicemen’s Home Corp.

Knight of the Year

Tidioute Knights of Columbus have announced that Jim Kristobak was named Knight of the Year at their recent monthly meeting.

Food Commodity

Tidioute’s next Food Commodity will be on Monday, September 28, at Tidioute Towers in the kitchen from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

TCCS Sports Boosters

TCCS Sports Boosters will be raffling off four Penn State tickets with a parking pass for the October 10 game against Indiana (game time is at noon). Chances will be $3 each or two for $5.

Raffle tickets will be available Thursday at the TCCS Sports Boosters booth located on the Fishing Tournament Grounds. The drawing will be Sunday at closing ceremonies. Winners need not be present.

Grand Prize Drawing

This year the grand prize drawing for the PSCFT committee will be a Mini 16 GB Apple iPad with retina display for the first drawing. The second drawing will be for $250 in cash.

Tickets are $1 each and the drawing will take place during the closing ceremonies on Sunday, September 27.

Tournament Kitchen

The fishing tournament kitchen will be open this weekend from Thursday until Sunday.

Food items for sale will include: hot dogs, sloppy joes, chicken fingers, garbage fries, and chili.

Water and pop will also be on sale.

Street closings

Green Street and Railroad Street will be closed at the end of business on Wednesday, September 23, and remain closed until approximately 5 p.m. Sunday after the clean up of the tournament festivities.

Also, Main Street will be closed on Saturday, September 26, from the firehall down to Buckingham street and Buckingham street will be closed to the bridge.

This is for the purpose of the Tidioute Parade and all the proper permits have been received.

Lego Day at Library

The Tidioute Library will be having Lego Day on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 1 p.m.

Kids ages six and under, are welcome to come to the library and put together a Lego Legends of Chima Kit and take it home with them.

St John Catholic Church in Tidioute will be selling cooked and frozen potato and cheese pierogi as a fundraiser from a booth at the Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing Tournament grounds on Sept. 25-27.

Call Fran at 484-7157 to pre-order the frozen pierogi. Order by Sept. 22 to guarantee availability.

Pre-ordered frozen pierogi can be picked up at St. John Church Center on Thursday, Sept. 24 from 1:30 p.m. till 4:30 p.m.

Advanced Carnival

Tickets

Advanced carnival ride tickets are now available for the 2015 fishing tournament.

For $20 you will receive 30 ride tickets and a chance to win a bicycle.

Tickets are on sale at Buccardo’s Restaurant, Boondocks Antiques, Evan’s Market, and Tidioute Trading Post.

Concert In Park

Tidioute is hosting another free concert in Picture Show Park.

A concert featuring the band “Day Old Soup”, Original Recipe, will be held on Friday, Sept. 25.

Music will start at 6 p.m. and last until 9 p.m.

The concert is sponsored by Tidioute Area businesses in conjunction with Tidioute Borough.

Bass Tournament

Results

The 19th Annual Glenn McKown Memorial Bass Tournament was held on Saturday, Sept. 12 with 33 teams participating.

First-place team was Vaughn and Martin Ralston with 17.73; second-place team was Darren Potts and Dave Manross with 16.82; third-place team was Justin Drukenbrod and Brandon Cotterman with 16.51; fourth-place team was Travis McWilliams and Beau Beach with 16.48; fifth-place team was Wade Adams and Mark Hughes with 14.84; sixth-place team was Terry Cotterman and Kirk Schwab with 14.62; seventh-place team was Scott and Curtis Lewis with 14.17; and in eighth place was Luke and Blake Sabella with 13.53.

Top Couple was Greg and Julie Kozora with 10.24. Top Adult/Youth was Luke and Blake Sabella. Women’ Lunker given in memory of Deb Genter went to Sue Habovich with 2.37. Team Lunker Award to Vaughan and Martin Ralston with 4.20

50/50 drawing went to Jim Habovich and the other half went to Hospice of Warren County.

Melissa Potts thanked everyone who helped her and all those who battled the wet weather to participate.

All fish were released back into the river after they were weighed.

Victorian Tea

Presbyterian Women’s Association held its 5th Annual Victorian Ladies Tea on Saturday, Sept. 12 at the First Presbyterian Church of Tidioute with approximately 70 women present.

A light lunch of small sandwiches, crescents, cookies, cream puffs and dessert along with several different flavors of tea were served.

Entertainment was provided by Grace, Lilly and Sarah Sabella who took turns playing the piano and finished with the three of them playing “Blueberry Blues” together.

Sunday School

Underway

Tidioute Methodist Church has started Sunday School classes for the school year.

Classes for children ages 3 and up start at 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.. Children ages three must be potty trained.

Adult classes start on Oct. 4 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Watson Grange

The altar was draped in memory of Joyce Wright at the recent meeting of Watson Grange which was presided over by Matt Irons, Master.

The main business of the evening was discussing the float for the parade at the Tidioute Fishing Tournament as well as the dime pitch stand for the carnival grounds.

Dictionaries are being purchased for distribution to the third graders at the Tidioute Community Charter School.

A new front door was installed on the Grange Hall.

Upcoming Grange events include: Watson Jr., meets Sept. 17 at 6:30 p.m.; NWCD meeting on Sunday, Sept. 20 at 2:30 p.m. at Perkins in Titusvillle; Cleaning at Watson Grange Hall on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m.; set up dime pitch in Tidioute on Wednesday, Sept. 23; fishing tournament Sept. 24-27; auction at Pomona Grange on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m. and the next regular meeting will be on Thursday, Oct. 8 following the quarterly birthday dinner at 6:30 p.m.

George Jones Memorial Walleye Tournament

On Saturday, Oct. 3 the 19th Annual George Jones Memorial Walleye Tournament will take place starting at 7 a.m. and you must stop fishing at 4 p.m. and weigh-in will be at the Tidioute Boat launch at 5 p.m.

This is a team tournament with an entry fee of $35 per boat which includes the Lunker.

Rules consist of horsepower must comply with BIA regulations; boat operator must be at least 16 years of age or older; under the age of 18 you must furnish parental consent; life jackets must be worn while combustion engine is running; live bait or lures may be used; each contestant may use more than one rod at a time; mandatory functional live wells capable of sustaining walleye; no alcoholic beverages consumed on board during tournament hours; citation or field acknowledgement issued by PFBC during tournament hours is season for disqualification; boat operator is responsible for boat’s wake; walleyes not alive will be permitted at weigh-in-however there will be a six-ounce penalty for each dead fish; only six walleye per two-man team; ties will be broken by weight of heaviest fish in tied teams live well, still tied money will be split 50/50; teams not at the weigh-in site by 5 p.m. will be disqualified. All boats must check in at weigh-in site; protests must be filed within 10 minutes of completion of weigh-in; all safety equipment is expected to be in boat according to PFBC rules and regulations; fishing boundaries will be from Kinzua Dam to President; and all fish are property of the tournament and will be returned to the river.

Borough Council

Tidioute Borough Council met Monday evening and welcomed several visitors. Dave Sherman, executive director of the Warren County Visitors Bureau, and Coralee Wenzel presented the borough with a sign that will be posted at the Tidioute Boat Launch. The sign has pictures and write-ups about rafting on the Allegheny River, things of Pennsylvania Wilds.

Sue Salm from the Holiday Lighting Committee requested help for decorating the borough for the holidays. Tying of the Greens will be on Friday, Nov. 20 at the borough garage and decorating will be done on Saturday, Nov. 21 She needs at least five people to help decorate, however ten would be better. Anyone wishing to make a monetary donation can make checks payable to the Holiday Lighting Committee and send them to Sue Salm at 272 Main St., Tidioute, PA 16351.

Bob Schwab introduced Dicter and Barbara Rosler and Monika Wagner who are here from Remagen, Germany. They saw the reenactment on the German Television and wanted to come and see for themselves when this was filmed. Dicter presented several pictures they put together from Germany and presented them to the borough office and Secretary/Treasurer Crystal Heenan gave him a WWII Reenactment t-shirt, ball cap and a print of Tidioute. Tidioute did make it all the way to Germany. These pictures will be hung in the borough office for the public to stop in and view them during regular business hours.

Minutes were accepted as presented.

Committee reports were presented on personnel and council unanimously agreed to hire Joshua Meeder and Jarrod Deeter as part-time police officers for Tidioute. All necessary paperwork and getting them in uniform will be done before fishing tournament weekend.

Also, Marci Cramer-Drukenbrod was hired as the new part-time office clerk.

In other council matters, Cindy Paulmier was granted permission to place a 4×8 sign shaped like a thermometer in Picture Show Park for the United Way.

Tidioute Borough and SWCMA will no longer withstand the total expense for issues pertaining to sewer and water lines on the homeowner property to the hook up. The borough will work with the property owners in these issues as they arise.

Permission was granted to PSCCFT to close Green Street and Railroad Street at the close of the business day on Wednesday, Sept. 23 to prepare for the fishing tournament festivities.

Johnson Street was repaved and the berms were fixed up and the hole on Green Street was dug open wider, problem was fixed and the hole was filled in.

Tidioute Creek was cleaned up and is now in better shape for the Kids Derby on Saturday, Sept. 26 from 9 a.m. till 11 a.m. Thanks to the borough maintenance department and a special volunteer from the community.

There will be free Wi Fi at the tournament grounds during the fishing tournament.

Watson Grange

John Hollabaugh, overseer, presided over the recent meeting of Watson Grange in the absence of Master Matt Irons due to the open house at Tidioute Community Charter School.

The main business consisted of plans for participation in the fishing tournament parade as well as the dime pitch booth during the fishing tournament festivities from Thursday, Sept. 24 to Sunday, Sept. 27.

Preparations are being made also for the host banquet for PA State Grange Officers at Watson on Oct. 16 catered by members of the Covenant United Methodist Church.

Watson Grange members be selling RADA Cutlery during the Fishing Tournament as well as at the auctions at Pomona and at their Fall Turkey Party. Anyone interested in any of the items can contact any Watson Grange member.

A successful 50/50 was held supporting the Barney family with their medical expenses.

Family Activity Chairperson Jean Hollabaugh read information on peroxide versus Clorox and Lecturer Kelly Van Ord used school as her theme for the evening program.

Coming up will be a work bee at Watson Grange Hall at 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 8.

Next regular Grange meeting will be on Thursday, Sept.10 at 6:30 p.m. with hodgepodge for refreshment.

Salt Squad

Don’t forget the Salt Squad “Bug Fest” for grades K-6 that will begin on Wednesday, Sept.2 at 7 p.m. at the Allegheny Bible Church.

The kick-off theme for this fall will be “Bug Fest”

Children will have a brief lesson each week on God’s design of insects as they study creation and the plan of salvation through Christ in His word.

Pastor Dale and Dolores led a 4-H Entomology Club for years and will present fun insect demonstrations and display their family’s insect collections.

The Salt Squad program, led by Susan Brown and the pastor , encourages weekly scripture memorization while learning the Bible lesson. Points are earned for memorizing Bible verses, bringing their Bibles, etc. and are used as “currency” in the Salt Squad Store to select a prize of various point values. The points are also tabulated at the end of the year to award trophies at the closing program.

Music, snacks and crafts complement the Bible lessons.

Community children in grades K-6 are invited to join them for Bug Fest.

It may seem far fetched, but it hasn’t rained for awhile. Our creek and natural springs are low and therefore the Tidioute Borough Water Authority is asking everyone to conserve water. Don’t wash your vehicles, water your lawn or fill your pools.

Victorian Tea

The annual Victorian Ladies Tea Party will be held on Saturday, Sept. 12 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church.

Tidioute Basket

The Tidioute WWII Reenactment Committee is putting together a “Tidioute Basket” for the WQLN PBS station annual auction.

This will be to promote our town and all that Tidioute has to offer including our reenactment. The Reenactment Committee has started the basket with items that include two WWII Reenactment T-shirts, two hats, a reenactment window cling, a brochure, and two reenactment mugs.

There is also a framed print of Tidioute.

The borough office is asking any and all businesses, non-profit groups, churches and organizations if they are interested in donating an item for the auction to be included in the bundle as this will be some great advertising and showcase what Tidioute has to offer.
