Senior Center Menu
Thursday, March 26 will be Meatloaf, mashed potatoes, gravy, dessert and beverages. The quarterly birthday cake will be served.
Monday, March 30 will be Fish with all the trimmings.
Tuesday, March 31 will be Spanish Rice, beverages, dessert. Main course is subject to change.

Easter Dinner
Tidioute Senior Center will hold its Easter Dinner. Call the center at 484-3020 for the exact day.
On the menu will be pork, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, dessert and beverages.
Lenten Lunch
Tidioute Presbyterian Church will host the Lenten Lunch on Wednesday, March 25, at 11:30 a.m. at the church.
This is open to all who wish to participate, and it is free of charge.
Next week, April 1, the Lenten Lunch will be at the First United Methodist Church at 11:30 a.m.
Health Fair
Tidioute Annual Health Fair is set for Saturday, March 28, from 7 a.m. to noon at the Tidioute Firehall in the social hall.
Staff members from Warren General Hospital lab will be there to do the blood draws. This is a twelve hour fasting and we will have a light breakfast for those who wish to eat after the blood draw.
Anyone who would like to participate in the Health Fair Blood Testing can call Linda Scott at 484-7525 for an appointment.
Those who are having a table will be able to get in the firehall by 6 a.m. to set up their table.
Produce Express
Tidioute residents who participate in the Produce Express, formally know as the Second Harvest Food Bank are reminded that it will be on Saturday, March 28, in the lower lever of the firehall or in the pavilion at the firehall. Parking is available along Main Street towards the Baptist Church, or along McGuire Street, due to the Health Fair set up in the Social Hall.
Remember to bring a couple of boxes or laundry baskets to carry your food in.
Pierogi sales
This is the final week to purchase your Pierogi from the St John Women’s Guild.
Saturday, March 28 is the last day of sales and sales will be held at St John Center from 1 to 4 p.m.

Soup Taste Off
The 11th Annual Soup Taste Off at Tippy Canoe will be held on Sunday, March 29.
Judging will begin at noon and all entries must be in by 1 p.m.
Card Shower
There is a card shower being held for Helen Nelson who will be 90 on April 1.

Knights of Columbus
Holy Thursday is April 2 and the monthly meeting of the Tidioute Knights of Columbus will be moved to the second week of the month, which would make it Thursday, April 9.
The meeting will be at St. John Center and the meeting will start at 7 p.m.
All members are asked to attend this meeting at which the new calendars will be distributed.
Easter Egg Hunt
The Pennsylvania State Championship fishing Tournament Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Saturday, April 4, at 10 a.m. at the Tippy Ballfield.
The field will be divided in age groups and will be marked accordingly.
Children must have their own containers for collecting eggs.
Rules and instructions will be announced prior to the hunt.
Parade Theme
Voting boxes are still out there for voting on the parade theme for this year.
Themes are: Celebrating the Four Seasons; The Wild Wild West; Welcome to the Jungle; Road Trip; and Tidioute Way Back Then.
Cast your monetary vote in the boxes located at Family Dollar, Tidioute Trading Post, Buccardo’s Restaurant, Evan’s Market and Tidioute Community Charter School.
Voting is a penny per vote and the theme that receives the most money/votes will be announced as this year’s parade theme.
All funds received from voting will be used to help defray costs for the parade which will be a Point Parade this year.
You have until Sunday, March 29, to cast your vote, the winning theme will be announced after all votes are tallied.

Country Superfest
Tidioute Area Volunteer Fire Department is currently selling tickets to the Buckeye Country Superfest, a 2- day package raffle.
This will be held at the Ohio stadium, Columbus, Ohio, on Saturday, June 20, to Sunday, June 21.
Tickets are for two, 2 days, Section F Row 33 Seats 12 and 13.
Stars include: Blake Sheldon, Rascal Flats, Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, Lee Brice, Tyler Farr, Cassadee Pope, Cole Swindell, David Nail, and Parmalee.

Essay winner
to be honored
Tidioute Community Charter School will be hosting an assembly/reception to honor Desi McChesney on Friday, March 27, at 1:30 in the gymnasium.
McChesney won at both the District and State Level and advanced to the National Level in Washington DC, where she placed tenth out of 54 participants.
She represented VFW Post 8803 in Tidioute with her essay for the Voice of Democracy.

Blood Drive
There will be a Blood Drive at the Tidioute Community Charter School on Thursday, April 9 from 12 to 6 p.m.
Women’ Guild
St John Women’s Guild will meet on Tuesday, April 7 at 7 p.m. at St John Center.

Medication
management
On Monday, April 13, Chris Darling of Crone’s Drugstore/Darlings Tidioute Pharmacy will be at the Tidioute Senior Center at 11 a.m. to discuss Medication Management.
This program is open to the public and all are welcome to attend.
A lunch of Goulash will be served at noon, if you are attending and would like to stay for lunch please call the center at 484-3020 to sign up for lunch.
Collecting shoes
Julie Benner of Tidioute is still accepting shoes of all shapes, sizes, men, women and children shoes are all being accepted. If you can only find one shoe, toss it in the bag will all the others as it will be accepted as well. These shoes can be in pairs, singles, new, old, scuffed, totally destroyed, sneakers, dress shoes and slippers.
Benner is working close with the Titusville First United Methodist Church.
Shoe collection will continue until June 10th. Please call her at 484-0280 for more information or to make arrangements for pick up or drop off.
K of C Calendars
Knights of Columbus Calendars are now available for sale. The donation is $25 each and they are good for one year: June 1, 2015 to May 31, 2016.
All number played straight as drawn. Winning numbers determined by matching the three digit numbers of the PA Lottery Pick 3 evening drawing.
All Prizes will be paid in the amount shown each day on the Calendar. This is their favorite fund raiser because they have so many winners. There are 365 chances to Win!
Proceeds benefit the Erie Diocese Youth Ministries Program. Every year the Knights of Columbus present the Erie Bishop with a check for $5,000 from the calendar program.

Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing Tournament Parade committee is requesting the assistance of the community.
It is asking the community for assistance in finalizing the parade theme for 2015.
There will be boxes with fifve different themes located at the following businesses and the Tidioute Community Charter School.

School Assembly
Tidioute Community Charter School will be honoring Desi McChesney on Friday, March 27 at 1:30 p.m. at a special assembly in her honor.
McChesney advanced to the national level in the Voice of Democracy Essay contest. The national level was held in Washington, DC and Desi placed 10th out of 54 contestants.
The community is invited to attend this special event.
Nurse Practitioner
Tracey Tickle, CRNP-FNP is providing primary care at the Tidioute Health Center. Tracey will be available on Tuesdays from noon to 5 p.m. and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Tickle earned a Master of Science in nursing degree, specializing as a family nurse practitioner from Carlow University, Pittsburgh. She completed multiple clinical rotations including several family practice rotations, urgent care, obstetrics and gynecology, and pediatrics.
Tickle has close ties to Warren County with family living in Warren and a camp in the area. She will be working in close collaboration with Dr. Levari for addressing health care needs.
Krispy Cream Donuts
Tidioute Community Charter School students are taking orders for Krispy Cream Donuts and the sales end on March 23.
Orders will be delivered on March 31. To place an order, call Tidioute School at 484-3550.
Health Fair
Plans for the annual Tidioute Health Fair are coming together as planned and will be held on Saturday, March 28 at Tidioute Fire Hall from 7 a.m. to noon.
Anyone wishing to have the comprehensive blood tests done should contact Linda Scott at 484-7525 for an appointment.
Tests include: testing for heart disease, kidney disease, diabetes, thyroid function, anemia, and liver disease.
Cost is $40 per person. A1C testing is an extra $10 and men can have the PSA test for prostate cancer done for an additional $17.
There is a 12-hour fasting required for the blood work.
There will be 35 different vendors with tables set up with information about different health care topics.
Free screenings will include body fat analysis, blood pressure, height, weight, BMI, diabetic foot evaluations, glaucoma screenings and Pulse OX.
A light breakfast will be provided after the blood work.
Staff members from Warren General Hospital will be doing the blood draws.
Shoes Wanted
Wanted: Shoes of all types, pairs or unmatched, new, old, scuffed, destroyed, sneakers, dress or slippers.
In cooperation with the Titusville First United Methodist Church, Julie Benner of Tidioute will be collecting shoes in the Tidioute area to support the Erie United Methodist Alliance (EMUA) and All God’s Children Ministries (AGCM) shoe collection drive.
Last year she collected 700 shoes. To donate shoes or for more information, contact Julie at 484-0280.
Dr. Seuss Day
On Monday March 2, Tidioute Community Charter School grades K4-6 celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday with a Read Across America assembly. Activities included a reading of Fox in Socks by Library Media Specialist Mrs. Robinson, tongue twisters, a rhyming game, and a Horton Hears a Who game. Students were able to dress as their favorite Seuss character or wear socks on their hands during the event.
TCCS Collecting
Sunny D Labels
TCCS has joined the Sunny D Book Spree by collecting Sunny D Labels (20 oz. or larger) which will be turned in for free books. The program donates 20 free books for 20 Sunny D UPC Labels. The program will also award hundreds of books to the ten schools that collect the most labels.
Box Tops
TCCS is collecting Box Tops. Collection boxes have been added at Evan’s Market, the Post Office, The Trading Post, and Tidioute Towers.

Annual Health Fair
Tidioute Annual Health Fair will be held on Saturday, March 28, from 7 a.m. to noon at the Tidioute Firehall.
This is sponsored by Warren General Hospital. Hospital staff members will be doing the blood draws for all the blood work for the Comprehensive Blood Test that will include testing for Heart Disease, Diabetes, Thyroid Function, Kidney Disease, Anemia, and Liver Disease. Cost for the Blood Test is $40 per person which will include a light breakfast.
Men have the option of a Prostate Cancer Testing for an additional cost of $17. An A1C test that shows blood glucose over a 3 month period, can be taken for a cost of $10.
Appointments can be made by calling Linda Scott at 484-7525. If you were here last year and have not received a call yet, please call Linda as we do not have your number. Some numbers were omitted from the list.

Players still needed
Players are still needed for the Donkey Basketball Game at Tidioute Community Charter School set for Friday, May 1, beginning at 7 p.m.
Donkey Basketball is an entertaining and hilarious game where players have to play basketball while riding on donkeys. To make a basket, a player must be sitting on the donkey at the time.
Teams will be formed as the date draws closer, so if you are interested in playing, please contact Monica Morgan by calling 484-3550.
Proceeds will benefit the trip to Spain by members of the Spanish Club.
Archery team at states
The archery team at Tidioute Community Charter School will be competing on Wednesday, March 13, at the Pennsylvania State Tournament at Penn State University.
There will be more than 1000 other students form the state. Winners from this tournament will move on to compete in the National Archery Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky.
The team is coached by Lou Fratrich and Ryan Guerra.
Patriotism begins
at home
Students at Tidioute Community Charter School in grades K-4 to grade six were treated to an Ice Cream Party on Friday by members of the VFW Post 8803 Ladies Auxiliary.
This was for their participation to the Auxiliary Troop Box Program. Many items were donated; hand-written letters, and signed Christmas Cards were sent to troops serving outside the United States in time for Christmas.
Fifth grade students collected the most items.
Each of the students received a citation from the National Auxiliary President, Ann Panteleakon, that read, “Youth Activities Award” In recognition of your Youth Group Supporting Our Veterans 2014-2015. The citations were presented by Doris Svitek, President of the Ladies Auxiliary of Post 8803.
These citations recognized each grade and thanked them for their effort to support our military service personnel and to help ensure that all Americans understood the precious cost of freedom.
Bev Stotler, Patriotic Instructor for the VFW Post 8803 Ladies Auxiliary, gave a history of the American Flag and all the students and staff members present recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Each student received a small American Flag, Patriotic Book Markers and Buddy Poppy for their efforts.
Auxiliary members present who assisted in the services include: Doris Svitek-Auxiliary President, Mary Fath-Sr. Vice President, Bev Stotler-Patriotic Instructor, Barb Downey-Historian.
McChesney at
National Level
Desi McChesney of Tidioute Community Charter School recently won both the District and State Levels of the Voice of Democracy essay contest that was sponsored by VFW District 19.
McChesney advanced to the National Level and traveled to Washington, D.C., for four days for the National Competition where she placed tenth out of 54 essay contestants.
The theme this year was “Why Veterans are Important to Our Nation’s History and Future.
This is the first time District 19 had a student go to Nationals.
A reception/celebration will be held in her honor on Friday, March 27 at the Tidioute Community Charter School at 1:30 p.m. in the gymnasium with light refreshments to follow in the cafeteria, and the community is invited to attend.
McChesney is the daughter of Victoria Wimer and John McChesney, both of Tidioute, and she is a senior at Tidioute Community Charter School.
Borough Council
Council met on Monday, March 9 at the borough office. Minutes from the previous meeting were accepted.
Police Chief, Steve Vincent reported traveling 372 miles and investigated three incidents.
Committee reports included WWII Reenactment meeting that will be held on Wednesday, March 25 at 6 p.m. The reenactment will be held on Saturday, August 1, more information will be forth coming.
Spring Clean Up has been set for Saturday, May 9 from 9 a.m. till noon. Cost is $10 per pickup load, $5 per car load, $5 for larger appliances. They will not accept paint cans, batteries, tires or electronics.
Terry Beck, office clerk will be added to all Borough and SWCMA accounts.
\Resolution #3 of 2015 allocating 2015 County Aid funds to be used for electric expenses.
Permission was granted to pay the bill and the Treasurers report was accepted as presented.
Townwide yard Sales will take place again this year, a date will be announced later as this event will coincide with the Annual Car Show. Thus it will be another Wheels and Deals event.

Tuesday, March 10 will be grilled chicken, potatoes, dessert and beverages.
Thursday, March 12 will be macaroni and cheese, stewed tomatoes, dessert and beverages.
Monday, March 16 will be salisbury steak, mashed potatoes, gravy, dessert and beverages.
Tuesday, March 17 will be bacon cheeseburgers, something green for dessert and beverages.
Senior Center News
Each month the senior center members hold a 50/50 raffle and the winner for the February drawing was Mike Cassese.
Lenten Lunch
On Wednesday, March 4, St. Anthony’s will be holding Lenten Lunch at 11:30 a.m. with chili as the main course.
Retreat
Tidioute First United Methodist Church will be holding a retreat on Saturday, March 7 from 9 a.m. till noon.
This is open to all who wish to join them.
Group Study
Tidioute First United Methodist Church will be holding a small group study on Monday, March 9 at 6:30 p.m. This is open to all who wish to come.
Borough Council
Tidioute Borough Council will meet on Monday, March 9 at 7 p.m. in the borough office located at 129 Main St.
Watson Grange
Members of Watson Grange will meet on Thursday, March 12, at the home of John and Deanna Hollabaugh at 6:30 p.m.
Pierogi Sales
St. John Church Women’s Guild in Tidioute will be selling frozen pierogi as a fund raiser during Lent on every Saturday until March 28 at the center from 1 p.m. till 4 p.m.
They will be making potato and cheese and potato and sauerkraut.
Pre-order each week by Thursday to guarantee availability.
Walk-ins are welcome.

Bird Watching Program
Monday night at Tidioute Towers, Ken Nicholson presented a travelogue featuring the beautiful and unique birds of Ecuador.
Several residents enjoyed t he presentation and narration as Ken described the area and the birds he and members of his family saw.
Ken also did a presentation on some of the local Pennsylvania birds that we see at our own birdfeeders.
After a brief questions and answers session, everyone enjoyed refreshments.
Chili Cook off winners
VFW Post 8803 has announced the winners of this year’s Chili Cook-Off
In first place was Diane Stephenson of Slippery Rock. In second place was Keitha Waddell and Andy Downey. Third place was Jimmy Konkle.
There were 23 entries this year and following the judging those present were treated to the chili and bread.
Judges this year were Bob Fath, Jim Lynch and John Hanisak.
Congratulations to all the winners.
Chinese Auction
Once again the VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Post 8803 had a successful Chinese Auction.
All proceeds that were raised is being given to cancer research.

Beating Winter Blues
Because February was National Hot Breakfast month and the residents at Tidioute Towers were starting to feel “closed in”, the manager at Tidioute Towers gave them a reason to come out.
Every Wednesday morning for the month of February any resident that came down to the lobby between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. got their name put in a drawing for a free breakfast at Buccardo’s restaurant.
Several residents participated. This not only got them out of their apartments but a little social interaction as well.
The winners were Shirley Cotterman and Bill McFadden.

Be sure to set your clocks ahead one hour on March 8. Better yet set it ahead before going to bed.
Health Fair Update
The annual Tidioute Health Fair is set for Saturday, March 28 from 7 a.m. to noon.
This is a 12-hour fasting blood screening that will be checked for heart disease, kidney disease, diabetes, thyroid function, anemia, and liver disease.
Cost is $40 per person and will include a light breakfast. Men have the option of a prostate cancer testing for a additional fee of $17. Also, an A1C test, which shows blood glucose over a three-month period, can be taken for $10.
Several free screenings will be available and include body analysis, blood pressure, height, weight, BMI, diabetic foot evaluations, glaucoma screenings, and pulse ox.
In addition to vendors/participants listed in last week’s column, the following will also be participating: Warren Medical Group-Tidioute Office, Warren Medical Group-Dental Office, Seneca Eye, Market Street Hearing, PathStone, Tidioute Community Charter School, Warren General Hospital Imaging Department, Warren General Hospital Maternal/Child Health, Ed Best Water, Karen Ashbaugh-Life Coach, CTI, AmeriHealth Caritas, Warren General Hospital Sports Medicine, and Warren General Hospital Life Alert.
Other groups have been contacted and we are awaiting their response.
