Flag Contest
Tidioute Borough Council is initiating a design for an official flag to represent the borough.
Everyone youth or adult, borough resident or not is invited to submit design proposals for a flag. All design submissions must be in color on nothing larger than legal paper (8.5 x 14). In addition, some of the basic rules include:
1. Keep the design simple. The most successful flags are ones that children can draw from memory.
2. Just a few primary or secondary colors is better than a host of colors.
3. Use meaningful imagery. All designs should, in some way reflect the history, geography or other important imagery (an animal, etc.) that is representative of Tidioute.
4. There should be no wording on the flag.
5. Do not use other people’s work. All designs must be original designs by the submitter.
6. Submissions must be in color utilizing crayon, marker, paint or other medium, or graphic art (Computer) technology.
Design submissions must be accompanied by a short summary of why the imagery in your design was used and why you chose the colors you used in the design. This must on the back of your design page and legible.
As they want to ensure anonymous voting based solely on the design, the borough is asking that you not put your name directly on your design. You may put your name on a separate piece of paper attached to the design. All submissions will be logged on a sheet and issued a number. Your name will be on the entry sheet next to the number you are assigned. That assigned number, not your name, will also be placed on your design to ensure anonymity during judging.
Judges will include members of the Tidioute Borough Council, some faculty from the Tidioute Community Charter School, and some other interested patrons of the contest.
The top three designs selected will be awarded cash prize money for their designs: $100 for the winning design, $75 for second place and $50 for third place.
The contest started on Aug. 1 and will end Nov. 1. All design submissions must be postmarked by that date.
For a list of all official rules or for any questions, call or stop by the borough office at 129 Main St., or call 484-7424 . You can also obtain rules by emailing tboro@tidioute.org.
