TCCS now open

Students at Tidioute Community Charter School have been in school now since last week.

Drivers are urged to watch for the children going to and from school and to remember the speed limits in the school zones.

Students are reminded to look both ways when crossing the streets.

Golf Scramble

Polly’s ShurSave Market presents the 4th Annual Bulldog Golf Scramble on Saturday, Aug. 31 at 9 a.m.

Cost is $200 per team, $50 per person.

Eighteen holes with a cart, all beverages will be provided along with hotdogs on the turn.

Picnic and prizes following the event.

Must be 21 years of age; proof of ID required.

Proceeds benefit Tidioute Community Charter School Basketball Team.

Ham and Turkey Party

Sunday, Sept. 1, there will be a Ham and Turkey Party at the Tidioute Firehall.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the games will begin at 7:30 p.m.

The kitchen will be open with lots of good food.

This is open to the public and all are welcome. Those under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Chips, pretzels and beverages will be provided.

Athletes wait tables

Members of the Tidioute Community Charter School sports teams will be waiting tables for tips at Buccardo’s Restaurant on Friday, Sept. 6 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The money raised will be supporting the newly formed Sports Boosters Club in providing a greater sports experience to all of our athletes.

Associates degree

program

The Education Consortium of the Upper Allegheny will continue to offer their Affordable Associates Degree Programs again this academic year.

This course work is now available at the Tidioute Community Charter School.

Shoe collection

The collection of shoes at the Tidioute Flea-tique will be wrapped up on Saturday, Sept. 7.

Any shoes you wish to donate need not be new; in fact, they can be pretty worn out. No need to clean them up in any way either.

Shoes can be dropped off Thursday through Monday during regular hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A large box has been provided for your donations.

Watson Grange

Members of Watson Grange met at the Grange Hall recently and discussed their participation in the State Championship Fishing Tournament with a float in the parade and the dime pitch game on tournament grounds.

Other business at the recent meeting included donations to the Tidioute Area Volunteer Fire Department and to the Buerk family who are members of the Elk Creek Grange in Erie Co., who lost vehicles and had extensive damage due to the storm that hit Union City.

Watson Grange will work the kitchen and have the bake sale table at the Pomona Auctions on Nov. 2 and Dec. 7.

Pomona Auctions at the grange building on Warren County Fairgrounds will be Sept. 21, Oct. 12, Nov. 2 and 16, Dec. 7 and 14. All start at 1 p.m.

Next meeting will be Sept. 12 at 6:30 p.m. with something “Fallish” or cookies for refreshments.

Bundle Up

Those needing help with back to school items and clothing for children kindergarten through grade 12 can contact the Salvation Army in Warren at 723-8950

Dates for appointments are Sept. 9 through Sept. 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m..

You will need to show your monthly income (pay stubs, food stamps etc), monthly expenses (rent, gas, electric, etc) proof of children (birth certificates, social security card or access card).

Grand Prize tickets

Tickets for the Grand Prize drawing for the upcoming Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing Tournament are now on sale for $1 each.

First Drawing will be for a 42-inch flat screen TV and second place drawing will be for $250 in cash.

Tickets are on sale at Buccardo’s Restaurant.

CROP Walk

Oct. 13 is the date for this year’s CROP Walk, which is sponsored by the Tidioute First United Methodist Church.

Shoe boxes

Items will be collected soon for the shoe boxes that are sent to children in time for Christmas.

Items needed are wash cloths, bar soap, hand towel, comb, nail cutters, toothbrush, toothpaste, hard candy, school supplies such as pencils, crayons, note paper, safety scissors, rulers.

No chocolates or liquids will be accepted

If you have items you want to donate, drop them off at the First United Methodist Church when the yellow sign is out.

Fireworks for

2013 tournament

Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing Tournament will have fireworks for Saturday, Sept. 28, at 9:45 p.m.

This year the fireworks will be sponsored by Tidioute Trading Post and Servicemen’s Home Corporation.

Tidioute Community Charter School has openings for students in grades kindergarten through grade twelve.

Firehall rental

Anyone wishing to rent the Tidioute Firehall for a wedding reception, birthday party, class reunion, etc. should contact Barb Bobak at 484-3478.

The hall is air conditioned and smoke free, kitchen, large bathrooms and plenty of parking space.

American Legion

The Elzie E Lynch American Legion Post will meet at ST John Center on Wednesday, August 28 at 7 p.m.

Benefit Dinner

A benefit spaghetti dinner and dance will be held on Friday, Aug. 23 from 5 to 8 p.m. and the dance will last until 10 p.m.

This is for the families of Cody Mohrey, Cody Masters and Tom Phelps, who were killed in an auto accident.

This event is being sponsored by Tidioute Community Charter School and SADD committee.

42-inch TV

First-place grand prize drawing winner for the Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing Tournament will receive a 42-inch flat screen TV and the second-place winner will receive $250 in cash.

Drawing is set for Sunday, Sept. 29 during the closing ceremonies of the 54th Annual Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing Tournament.

Tickets cost $1 each and the winners need not be present to win; they will be notified by the committee.

District 19 Meeting

Due to the conflict in scheduling the District 19 VFW and its Ladies Auxiliary has been changed to Sunday, Aug. 25 at the Bradford VFW Post 212.

The Auxiliary meeting will start at 2 p.m..

Newly-elected State President Julie Dever will be making her official visit at this time.

There will be a meet and greet with Dever from 1 to 2 p.m. before the Auxiliary meeting.

Shoe Drive

The Shoe Drive at the Flea-Tique will continue until Saturday, Sept. 7. Julie has collected over 100 pairs of shoes already.

These shoes do not need to be clean, sorted or prepared in any way. Old , new or somewhat in between will be great. They can be put to good use at the Erie United Methodist Alliance and All God’s Children Ministries/Ramps of Hope.

This shoe drive is to raise funds for their ministries serving whose who are homeless or disabled, while also benefiting micro-enterprise ventures in developing nations and keeping old shoes out of local landfills.

Tidioute Flea-tique is open from 9 a.m. till 5 p.m. every day except Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Lions Club

Due to the lack of volunteers within the Tidioute Lions Club, there will be no wheel at this year’s Fishing Tournament.

Several organizations are experiencing the need for volunteers.

Ham and Turkey Party

Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing Tournament Committee members will be hosting a ham and turkey party on Sunday, Sept. 1 at the Tidioute Firehall.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the games will begin at 7:30 p.m.

54th PSCFT

Plans are well underway for the 54th Annual Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing Tournament to be held Thursday, Sept.26 through Sunday, Sept. 29.

A parade is planned for Saturday, Sept. 28 with line-up at 10 a.m., Parade begins at 1 p.m. sharp. Theme this year is “Salute to Volunteers”. John and Nathan Brown are chairpersons for the parade.

Anyone wishing to have a unit in the parade can contact the Browns at 484-3979. There is no entry fee. All awards will be presented at the tournament grounds following the parade.

Fishing begins at 12:01 Saturday, Sept. 28 scales close at 8 p.m. Saturday. Sunday fishing starts at 5 a.m. with a referee and all fish must be in before 2 p.m. on Sunday when the scales close.

Crowning of the Jr Champion Angler will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29 and closing ceremonies begin at 3:30 p.m.

Love Inc Golf Scramble

Love INC. Love in the Name of Christ of the Brokenstraw, which includes Tidioute, will host its Second Annual Golf Scramble on Saturday, Sept. 21 at Cable Hollow Golf Course, in Russell.

Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and shotgun start at 9 a.m.

Proceeds from this event will benefit Love in the Name of Christ of Brokenstraw Valley.

Team cost is $60 per person or $24 per four-person team.

Your entry includes: 18 holes of golf with a cart, refreshments prior to and during the event, lunch and awards after the event, on course games/contest, and a special gift for all participants.

Love INC is a non-profit, donor support organization that networks with churches to help those in need in the Brokenstraw Valley. Volunteers work in the business office, managing the help line, and/or assisting the various ministries that are part of Love INC of Brokenstraw Valley.

Memorial Tournament

The Glenn McKown Memorial Bass Tournament was started 17 years ago when the grandsons of Glenn McKown wanted to do something in his memory. Each year on Saint Patrick’s Day the grandsons got together and would collect money to get something started. With Glenn being a dedicated fisherman, it was obvious that a fishing tournament would be fitting.

Family members contacted Deb Genter, who had experience with bass tournaments, for some help. Since then, the Glenn McKown Memorial Bass Tournament has been held the first Saturday after Labor Day.

This tournament is a “Catch and Release” event that only allows river fishing and is limited to 50 boats. As a team tournament your team can consist of two-men, couples and adult/youth (under the age of 16).

This year the Bass Tournament will be held on Saturday, Sept. 7 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. with weigh-in to be at 4 p.m. at the Tidioute Boat Launch.

Entry fee is $30 per boat and fishing is permitted in the Alleghney River from the tailwaters at Kinzua Dam down as far as the Presidents, PA Boat Launch. River only, no creeks.

Smallmouth Bass caught on artificial bait only are to be brought to the scales in a water-filled container.

Adult Prom

Would you like to relive your past with an Adult Prom, or perhaps it would be a do-over for those who did not get to go to their high school prom? Either way there will be an Adult Prom in Tidioute on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 9 p.m to midnight.

This adult prom is for those age 18 and older and will be held at the Tidioute Firehall.

Cost is $10 per person.

Proceeds will benefit Allyvia Morgan’s People to People trip to Harvard University next summer.

This is a BYOB event, complete with music provided by the Brown Boyz, there will be refreshment, prom pictures, a prom court, and a Prom King and Prom Queen (which those attending will be voting on).

Walleye Tournament

The 17th Annual George Jones Memorial Walleye Tournament will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12.

This is a two-person team with a six-fish limit per team.

Cost is $30 per boat, which includes a lunker award.

Correction

Last week the $100 worth of PA instant lottery tickets drawing was held by the Tidioute Area Volunteer Fire Department, not the Fishing Tournament as previously reported.

BBQ Dinner

There will be a $1 dinner on Thursday, Aug. 15, at 5 p.m. at the Tidioute First United Methodist Church.

Everyone in the community is invited to come for a BBQ dinner and good fellowship.

Cost for this event is only a $1 donation per person.

Thank You

A big thank you is extended to Jane and Bill Downey, Marian Dashner and Mike Dashner for mowing and cleaning up the hillside between Route 62 and Route 337 prior to the WWII Re-enactment held last weekend.

These folks volunteered their time equipment for the mowing.

VFW Picnic

White Elephant

Last chance to get in on the VFW Annual Picnic to the held on Saturday, Aug. 17, at Tidioute Bucktails.

Members of the Ladies Auxiliary are still accepting wrapped items for the White Elephant Sale that will be held during the picnic.

Items can be dropped off at the Post Home or bring them with you to the picnic.

Benefit dinner

Tidioute Community Charter School and members of the SADD group will be hosting a benefit spaghetti dinner and a Celebration of Life Dance for Cody Mohrey, Cody Masters and Tom Phelps on Friday, Aug. 17 at Tidioute Firehall.

Dinner will be from 5 p.m to 7 or 8 p.m. and the Dance will be from then until 10 p.m.

Letter Of Appeal

Tidioute Area Volunteer Fire Department is requesting monetary donations from residents and campers to help defray the rising costs of operating a volunteer fire department.

The cost is continually going up for training the firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians.

Grand Prize Drawing

Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing Tournament is selling Grand Prize Tickets for a 24-Inch flat screen TV for the first drawing. Second drawing is for $250 in Cash.

Tickets are $1 each and the drawing is set for Sunday, Sept.29.

Parade Theme

This year the theme for the Fishing Tournament Parade is “Salute to Volunteers”

Lineup is at 10 a.m. Judging of the Floats is set for 11 a.m. and the parade starts at 1 p.m.

Tidioute High School Class of 1993 held their 20th Class Reunion on Saturday, July 27, at the home of Jack and Sue Shields, parents of classmate Melissa Shields.

School supplies

In the past few weeks members of the Tidioute First United Methodist Church has been collecting school items for the students at Tidioute.

Kelley McKean will be picking up those supplies from the drop off sites on Friday, Aug. 16, and taking them to the school. If you have any items to donate such as pencils, pens, erasers, tissues, highlighters, rulers, colored pencils, crayons, safety scissors, notebooks, folders and pencil pouches. Or even the Hand sanitizers, Clorox wipes, or wet ones. Be sure to get them to Polly’s Market, Tidioute Library, Tidioute Post Office lobby or Buccardo’s Restaurant before Friday.

Tidioute Community Charter School students return to school on Tuesday, Aug. 20.

Borough Council

Tidioute Borough Council met at 7 p.m. Monday evening at the borough office.

Minutes from the previous meeting were accepted and approved. The treasurers report for July was also accepted and permission was granted to pay they bills.

Police Chief Steve Vincent reported traveling 588 miles for the past month, and he had 12 incidents and charges.

WWII Committee members will meet on Tuesday, Aug. 20 at 6 p.m.at the borough office. Anyone wishing to help with this event for next year is urged to attend this meeting. The committee is looking for volunteers and new ideas. The public is welcome to attend as well.

Finance committee members will be meeting in September to start on the budget.

Fall Gun Raffle

Tidioute Area Volunteer Fire Department members are hosting their annual Fall Gun Raffle on Saturday, Nov. 11.

They are currently selling those tickets at Tidioute Trading Post, and from your favorite firefighter.

Also, they are selling tickets on a quarter of beef and freezer.

Raffles one through four will be for a quarter of beef, all beef quarters will have the same cuts of meat: non-negotiable. Raffle 5 will be for the chest freezer.

Bass Tournament

Plans for the 17th Annual Glenn McKown Bass Tournament are underway with Deb Genter at the helm once again.

The catch and release event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 7, in Tidioute from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The weigh-in will be held at 4 p.m. at Tidioute boat launch and the public is invited to attend.

Entry fee is $30 per boat with the categories being: two men, couple, and Adult/Youth (under age 16).

Permitted fishing area is Kinzua tailwaters to President, PA Boat Launch. River fishing only, no creeks.

Smallmouth Bass caught on artificial baits only are to be brought to the scales in water filled containers.

This year the committee is selling T-shirts “Fishing for the Cure” on the front for $20 each. Proceeds from the sales will be given to the Warren Cancer Center. Shirts are available in Aquatic Blue or Green. Shirt orders must be in by Friday, Aug. 16 to Deb Genter.

54th Annual PA

State Tournament

Tidioute Pennsylvania is the home of the State Championship Fishing Tournament, and this is the 54th year for this free fishing contest.

The tournament is set for Thursday, Sept. 26, to Sunday, Sept, 29 with fishing on Saturday and Sunday only.

There will be several activities going on in Tidioute that weekend to provide entertainment for the entire family.

A carnival will be set up with rides and concessions from Carnival Trowver of Gibsonton, Florida. Rides and concessions will be open on Thursday through Sunday.

Local organizations will have food booths including the United Methodist Church with their Funnel Cakes and hot Sausages. Game booths will be manned by several of organizations in the community and several others will be set up with raffle tickets to benefit their organization.

Tidioute Lions Club will have their wheel game, raffle tickets and brooms.

Watson Grange will have their Dime Pitch as usual and they are still accepting donations of glass items that can be used in the Dime Pitch, contact John Hollabaugh to have the items picked up.

Saturday, September 28th the scales will open at 8 a.m and close at 8 p.m sharp., Kids Derby for those age 3 to age 10 will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Benner Park, An Arts and Crafts Show at Tidioute Firehall from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is open to the public, Parade line up is at 10 a.m. Parade begins at 1 p.m. sharp at Tidioute Firehall, Finalist announced at 8:30 p.m., Junior Champion Angler will be crowned at 9 p.m. Fireworks at 9:45 p.m.

Sunday, September 29 the carnival and grounds will open at 12 noon. Champion Angler for 2013 will be crowned at 3 p.m. and the closing ceremonies will begin at 3 p.m.
