Audubon Little Explorers to hold next session Jan. 14

Submitted Photo The 3 to 8-year-olds and their adults who come to Audubon Community Nature Center on Saturday, January 14, for Little Explorers will become snow scientists for the morning.

The Audubon Community Nature Center’s Little Explorers will be snow scientists during the group’s next session from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14.

Children between the ages of 3 and 8 and their favorite adults will learn more about how snow formed and its unique structure, from the smallest snowflake to the largest snow bank. During an indoor lesson, the snow scientists will do some snow experiments, delving deeper to figure out how snowflakes form and how snowbanks can help animals survive the winter. Then, if the weather allows, they will go outside to dig right into the snowbanks, look closely at individual snowflakes and tunnel down through the snow layers.

Back inside, a snack is provided, and a craft is offered if there is time. This program takes place rain, snow or shine, so dress for the weather. The fee is $12 for adults, $9 for children ages 3 to 8 and Nature Center members. Enrollment is limited to 15 children, 30 participants total. Make reservations by Thursday, Jan. 12, by calling 716-569-2345 during business hours or by going to AudubonCNC.org and clicking through “Programs and Events.”
