Students at Tidioute Community Charter School took their game to another level.

The Game Design class ventured to the campus of the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford to meet with adjunct professor of computer information systems and technology (CIST) Jeremy Callinan.

“Professor Callinan walked the students through how to get started in game design, what college classes were like, what careers were available, and then showed TCCS students many different VR headsets,” teacher Megan Minich said. “Each student had the opportunity to try out each headset themselves.”

The class members on the excursion were seniors Denny Valentine and Aleya Proctor, juniors Trevor Haehn and Arreanna Anderson, and sophomores Zoey Birchard and Sierra Studley.

“It was an amazing experience,” Valentine said. “We were shown different ways to stand out in the IT field. We also got to use and experience the Unity engine. I really enjoyed visiting the campus as well.”

The students toured UPB and had a meal in the dining hall.

Minich is a Pitt-Bradford graduate and is continuing an outreach relationship with the school and the CIST program.

“Thank you, Megan Minich and the TCCS students for visiting us at Pitt-Bradford,” Callinan said. “We enjoyed sharing our excitement about technology, and the CIST program loves spreading the word about opportunities in technology related careers. They are a great group of students and we hope to see them again.”
