Amphibians Are Creature Feature March 31

On Wednesday, March 31, Audubon Community Nature Center will have its third monthly after-school Creature Feature that highlights one or more of Audubon’s education animals. Amphibians are the March featured creature, like the American Toad pictured.

The Audubon Community Nature Center’s Creature Feature program this month is Wednesday, March 31, from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m.

The new program on the last Wednesday of the month introduces children and families to Audubon’s education animals.

Amphibians are the stars in March.

Amphibians are small vertebrates that need water, or a moist environment, to survive. The species includes frogs, toads, salamanders, and newts. All can breathe and absorb water through their very thin skin.

The program will be inside where wearing a face covering is required for ages 3 and up.

Those attending can visit early to explore inside the nature center building or save time at the end of the program to adventure outside.

The fee is $4 for adults, $3 for Nature Center members and children 3-15, and free for those two and under.

Enrollment is limited to 13 participants, and paid reservations are required by Tuesday, March 29. Register by calling 569-2345 during business hours or going to AudubonCNC.org and clicking through “Upcoming Programs.”

Walk-ins may be accepted if there is room; call for availability after the deadline.

Audubon Community Nature Center is located at 1600 Riverside Road, one-quarter mile east of Route 62 between Jamestown and Warren. While practicing safe social distancing measures, you can enjoy the six miles of trails on the 600-acre nature preserve from dawn to dusk daily.

The Nature Center building includes the Blue Heron Gift Shop, live animals, and the winning photographs from the 2020 Nature Photography Contest. Visitors are welcome Mondays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is by donation only.
