Chapman State Park Fall Festival planned

The public is invited to family-friendly fun at Chapman State Park’s fifth annual Fall Festival to be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at the beach and at Pavilion #4.

Families can enjoy a variety of demonstrations including apple cider, homemade ice cream, Dutch oven cooking, garbage can corn and bannock baking. Samples will be available, so be sure to arrive early. Children and adults alike will enjoy candle dipping, leaf printing, pumpkin decorating and games. Nature themed activities will include birding, looking for insects in the lake, drilling beach glass and a trapping demonstration. A solar scope will also be set up for viewing the sun safely.

Historical demonstrations will include wool spinning and lumbering. The Pennsylvania Woodmobile will be there this year. Walk through this traveling exhibit to learn about the state’s forest resource and products.

Chapman State Park and Friends of the Allegheny Wilderness will have information tables set up. Stop by and grab some information on outdoor recreation opportunities in the area. Craft vendors will sell hand-made items such as body scrubs, wall art and knitted items. A pumpkin scavenger hunt will take place at 1 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for found pumpkins. This activity will meet at the “Pumpkin Games” sign at the beach.

“Yoga on the Beach” will begin at 2 p.m. Enjoy the sounds of the lake and the warmth of the sun while practicing yoga. Students of all levels of yoga are welcome. Yoga mats will be provided. In case of rain, this program will be held in Pavilion #3.

The concession stand will be open during the festival for purchase of many delicious food items.

Admission, parking and educational activities are free and open to the public.
