Pops by the fountain: Warren Phil, Summer Music School partner for concert
Pops by the Fountain returns this Thursday night.
The annual outdoor concert, held on Second Ave. between Liberty St. and Pennsylvania Ave., will bring the Warren Philharmonic together with the Warren County Summer Music School for a night of music and performance.
A rehearsal will be starting at 5 p.m. with the concert commencing at 7.
“The concert will include dancing, a choir, vocal soloists and of course consist of many of the pieces that are 4th of July favorites,” Philharmonic President Brenda Schnick said. “This concert also starts the unofficial kick off to the Warren County Fourth of July celebration.”
“This group of up to 80 performers includes members of the Warren Philharmonic, and students from the Warren County Summer Music School,” Schnick said. “Many performers from the Warren County Summer Music School will play a special role in this concert including dancers, chorus, and individual soloists.”
The concert will open with a bagpipe fanfare, one short classical selection — “Hall of the Mountain King” — and then a mix of both patriotic and pop selections.
This year’s pop selections include “Sandpaper Ballet,” “The Eagles on Tour,” “Broadway Tonight” and “Fascination.” Patriotic selections include “Star Spangled Spectacular,” “From Sea to Shining Sea,” “Washington Post March” and “The Stars and Stripes Forever.”
“We are doing a tribute to the Eagles as well as a piece called ‘Broadway Tonight’ that includes a medley of pieces that the audience should be familiar with,” Schnick said.
“The public is invited to bring their lawn chairs and enjoy both the rehearsal and concert,” she added. “In case of rain the concert will be held at Warren Area High School.”
This marks the conclusion of the Philharmonic’s 2023-2024 season.
“I want to personally thank our audience and performers for a great season this year,” she said. “We continue to have more and more people attending our performances. Our last performance that featured our pianist Amber Shay Nicholson was packed with classical music lovers of many different age groups and our soloist delivered an outstanding performance.”
The Philharmonic’s first 2024-2025 concert will be held on Nov. 24.
