Dear Editor, Everyone who has thoughts about the government and what we see taking place has the same conclusion: vote in the coming election. The solution to the chaos we see is that each voter take the time to know the issues and how to determine what is seen as the desired outcome. Dear Editor, In the July 29 issue of the Times Observer, columnist Star Parker incitingly discusses the comparison of the Lincoln-Douglas debate of 1854 to the present discussion of abortion rights. She writes “Is our ultimate value that a woman have the option to destroy her unborn child, or is our ultimate value sanctity of life.” May I suggest that the more important choice is omitted; that the woman’s right to conceive an unwanted child be considered. How many abortions result from promiscuity and questionable relationships? Charles S. Merroth, Warren

Keeping it local

Dear Editor, Our city manager, Nancy Freenock, will be leaving Warren in August. She has served the city of Warren for 10 years. Thank you for your service and all the best in your future endeavors. I believe Warren was lucky to have a city manager for 10 years, but I am not confident such a person and long tenure can be found again outside of Warren. Recent experience with the planning and code department is a good example. Political fallout

Dear Editor, A couple of weeks after Roe was overturned, the Pennsylvania legislature recessed for the summer — and typical for the ending of a legislative session here was the hurried passage of a partisan piece of legislation. It’s the old story: amendments or bills from the party in power (the Republicans) are given a vote while amendments from the party out of power get tabled! That’s huge! And since I’m speaking of power politics, why is it that bills to address the redistricting process with a Citizens’ Redistricting Commission invariably get gutted or blocked? ...

Rewards in Warren Dear Editor, I’d like to applaud the efforts of Pat Hackett and the Allegheny River Monsters cast and crew for doing such a beautiful and beneficial event for Warren. Being in Nashville, I was unable to attend but was just so proud to see. It was a great way for people to come together and share the magic that is music and doubly so for the proceeds to go to such a great cause. Keeping music and arts in schools is so important and so pivotal in children’s development and maturation. So many good deeds go unrewarded and I just didn’t want to let this one ...
