John Bonavita

John F. Bonavita 65, of 502 South Main Street Sheffield, died suddenly Thursday July 12, 2018. He was born in Warren March 11, 1953 the son of the late Samuel and Rose Konastoba Bonavita. He was married to the love of his life Cheryl Davidson Bonavita in Sheffield on October 15,1983.

He is survived, in addition to his wife, by two sons, Christopher J. Bonavita and Nicholas S. Bonavita, Pittsburgh and daughter Saleena (Kerryn) Nearing, Sheffield. and the apple of his eye Grand daughter, Quinn C. Nearing, 1 brother James (Dale) Bonavita, Socrates (Kerry) Georgeadis, several nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by a sister Mary Jo Georgeadis and a brother Thomas Bonavita.

After graduating from Warren High School in 1971, John attended the University of Pittsburgh graduating with a BA in Political Science and Criminal Justice in 1975. He later received his Masters of Education specializing in counseling.

John started his career at the Warren County Sheriffs Office later becoming a Conewango Township police officer for 13 years. Next, he taught history at Sheffield High School before ending his career as guidance counselor for the Warren County Career Center, teaching for 26 years. While teaching, John, having a tremendous passion for football began coaching. He coached football for two plus decades, and guided many lives while pursuing his passion.

He enjoyed golfing, was an avid football and other sports fan especially the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a very devoted husband, father and grandfather. One of his greatest joys was his retirement and spending time with his granddaughter.

The family will receive friends on Monday July 16, 2018 at the Sheffield First United Methodist Church from 1 to 5 p.m., and on Tuesday July 17, from 10 to 11 a.m., at which time a Celebration of Life will be held with Pastor Douglas Brink, officiating.

The family suggests memorial donations to the Sheffield VFD Ambulance Service. The Borden Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
