ERIE — The Eisenhower Knights used the one-two punch of the Hanson brothers and 16 three pointers to defeat Erie First Christian Academy in the championship game of the C. Thomas Barringer Holiday Tournament 82-59 held at Iroquois High School over the weekend.
Freshman Liam Hanson had 19 points and a pair of three’s while his older brother, Austin Hanson, a junior had 17 points and 5 three’s to lead the Knights. Freshman Kymani Vine added another 14 points with four 3-pointers.
Both teams started slowly, but the Knights finally scored with 3:59 of the first quarter and they never trailed after three pointers by the Hanson’s and Vine helped them to an 11-8 first quarter lead.
The Knights used 9 points by Liam Hanson and three pointers by Derek Guiher and Rylan Benton to race out to a 38-16 lead at the half.
The Knights never let off the gas as the 3-pointers continued to drop through the nets as Austin Hanson hit three and Derek Guiher one, as the Knights led 70-39 at the end of three quarters.

Vine closed out the scoring for the Knights, draining three’s on three straight possessions in the fourth quarter before Eisenhower head coach Ryan Mangini cleared his bench.
Mangini was pleased with his team’s effort in the win.
“This was probably our most complete game,” Mangini said. “In terms of team defense and being connected defensively. The effort has been really high from the guys and the results are showing on the court.”
Eisenhower’s record is now 7-1 and tonight they will take the long bus ride to Sharon for a non-region game.
“Sharon is a tough team,” Mangini stated. “Especially being our third game in a row without practice. It will be a good test for us on the road and our team has talked about embracing the challenges that come in front of us and learning from each of them.”
First Christian’s Simon Gonzalez led all scorers with 29 points and teammate Avery Collins added 22 points in the loss.
After the victory, Austin Hanson is now just 14 points away from joining the 1,000-point club.
