The Warren High unified bocce team hosted its first match of the season when they took on the Corry Beavers on Tuesday afternoon.

The unified bocce team is the integration of students with and without disabilities, working together as athletes and partners with the overall goal of winning. Each school had two teams: Warren 1, Warren 2, and Corry 1 and Corry 2. These teams go against one another, for a total of four matches played.

Warren 1 featured Hemi Baran, Eric Irons, Peyton Cabisca, Jacob Elmquist, Keely Southworth, Julia Getner, Attie Corey and Sophia Fromknecht. Warren 2 was represented by Ryder Check, Colton Ristau, Sammy White, Leo Westover, Daniel Vignere, Logan Ristau, Lettie Pearson, Brooke Campbell and Tony Clark.

After the four matches were finished, each team posted a 2-2 record, which called for the golden frame. This is a tiebreaker to determine the victory for the match. Corry won the frame 1-0 for the narrow victory. (Note, the golden frame does not count toward overall points, and is not counted toward the team record).

“Overall, we had a great first match against Corry,” Warren bocce head coach Cayla Onoratti said. “Both schools had two teams, making match play challenging. We had a great turnout. Every player contributed today, and we will continue to work on accuracy and strategy at practice to prepare for our next game at Maplewood.”
