The Kinzua Wrestling Club hosted its third annual Warren County Scholastic Wrestling’s Media Night on Monday evening.

The goal of the event was to kick off the highly anticipated Warren County wrestling seasons for each respective program — Warren High boys and girls, and the Eisenhower Boys.

“It was also a great opportunity to give athletes a county-wide workout, build awareness, and help promote our athletes and grow our sport,” said Warren County girls coach Glenn Baldensperger.

The evening started with the student-athletes showcasing their skill and technique through various drills and exhibitions. The practice session was spearheaded by Warren High boys coach Koltyn Eason, Eisenhower High boys coach Jared Lindell, Baldensperger, and the many assistant and volunteer coaches that are pivotal to each program.

After the drill session concluded, every student-athlete introduced themselves and stated how many years they have been wrestling. There was a sense of unity throughout the building. Despite there being three separate programs present, it is obvious that each team wants the other to succeed.

Kinzua Youth Development Center Executive director Asha Waterstreet emphasized their motto of “We build up, we don’t tear down” as well as the four foundations of the organization: respecting, helping, self-directed and motivating, and giving our best effort.

“We felt more of a need to help the kids out beyond wrestling,” Baldensperger said when asked about the progression goals of the development center. “We are more worried about the people we put out and develop in the real world than winning matches. We hope to expand on not just wrestling, but other ways to get out in the community as there are other gaps to fill.”
