A 2024 Warren Area High School graduate turned in a strong performance Saturday for the Alfred University football team.
Tommy Nyquist ran for 69 yards, including a 1-yard touchdown, his third of the season, in the Saxons’ 51-28 loss to Utica.
For the season, Nyquist has accumulated 581 rushing yards, 88 receiving yards and 129 yards on kick returns.
“We have been in a bit of a rut these last two games, losing both of them,” he said of the Saxons (3-4). “I think our main struggle would just be starting slow and allowing our teams to get ahead early and gain momentum. We have the ability to work hard and never give up on each other no matter the circumstances.”
A sports and health sciences major, Nyquist admitted the “challenge for me is finding enough hours in the day where I can consistently grow with football and school.”
He added: “The more I do it though, the more I realize how that balance has helped with my discipline, time management, and focusing under pressure. The goals for the remainder of the season would be to win out, going 3-0. We could try to sneak into a bowl game with a 6-4 record, giving us the chance to extend our season with one more game. Another goal is just to continue to get better as a team and individuals each time we step on the field.”
The Saxons look to bounce back next weekend when they take on SUNY Brockport.
