UNION CITY — The Eisenhower junior high cross country team concluded its season last week at the District Championship Invitational at Union City High School.
Eighth-grader Josie Elms ran a blazing time of 12:36 to earn a 15th-place finish, and a medal, in the 146-runner event. Also competing for the Knights and running strong races were Kaylee Ferino (44th), Hanna Lund (47th) and Naveen Mead (84th).
The junior high boys race saw Cameron Lindell pace the Knights with an 11:48 time, finishing in 35th place out of the 214-runner field. Benny Matson wasn’t too far behind in 56th, and teammates Zack Ayers (97th) and Dylan Shaffer (103rd) ended their seasons on high notes.
“This was the last meet for our junior high runners,” head coach Darlene Beach said. “These kids have been a great group to work with and I have been impressed with their performance this season.”
The Halloween Cross Country Pumpkin Run is the annual race the Eisenhower team sponsors for grades 3-6 in the Northern Attendance Area. This run was held earlier this month with 65 runners completing the one-mile course. Participants each received a Halloween treat and a race souvenir.
