Warren girls take 7th at General McLane Invite
CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS — The Warren Dragons girls golf team earned a seventh-place finish out of 12 teams Wednesday at the second annual General McLane Invite played at Riverside Golf Course.
The Dragons finished with a team score of 297 counting the top three out of five scores.
Defending PIAA AA state champion Fairview won the team title with a score of 234.
“Today was a tale of two different nines for our players,” Warren head coach Scott Pearson said. “Everyone struggled on the front nine and got it together on the back. None of our players had ever played this course before. The course tested us with elevated, smaller greens that required precise iron shots. This made hitting greens in regulation a little harder than usual at first.”
Both Kate Shippee and Elissa Errett showed great poise in turning around both of their rounds. They each struggled on the front with Kate carding an 84 with 46-38 splits, and Errett shooting a 93 with splits of 51 and 42.
“I am very happy to see the maturity in their mental game to be able to turn around their play during the round,” said Pearson.
“I had a challenging front nine,” Errett said. “My iron shots were left short and I couldn’t get many of my chips to roll out where I’d like. However, on the back I turned things around and shot nine strokes better than the front. I set myself up for some easy pars and was able to birdie a couple holes.”
Shippee finished in 13th place out of 60 players while Errett earned a 17th-place finish. JoJo Gray ended with a 120 and Alyssa Reichle carded a 132.
The low score for the day was a 70 from Cora Hirz followed by a 71 from Cassidy Conn.
The Dragons are right back at it today when they travel to the Coudersport Invitational.
