Warren boys and girls runners sweep Corry
CORRY — The Warren Area High School boys and girls cross country teams traveled to Corry on Tuesday to take on the Beavers, and won both high school and junior high competitions.
In varsity girls action, the Dragons claimed the top three spots en route to a 19-39 victory. Morgan Alexander paced the squad with a time of 21:07, followed by Riley Evan with a 21:34, and Leona Hovan coming in with a 21:45. Ella Cull (23:54), Loralei Johnson (26:16) and Rose Rioux (27:20) rounded out the Dragon girls.
The varsity boys kept the momentum going with a narrow 22-33 win. Warren’s Cole Fitzgerald had the best time with a 17:36 followed by teammate Leyton Salvatore with a 17:58. Grayson Collopy was third for the Dragons with an 18:30 with Chase Fetzeck (19:45) and Levi Peterson (20:42) right behind. Rounding out the varsity team were Gavin Heeter with a 21:04 and Mason Smith running a 26:11.
“We came out strong today on a hot day to run,” Warren head coach Kevin Dustin said. “We did exactly what we had to do to get some wins and still prepare for a big race this weekend. (I am) very happy with everyone’s performances today.”
The junior high girls defeated Corry by the same score the Varsity Boys did: 22-33. Nina and Elsie Woldt earned top honors with times of 11:09 and 11:57 respectively. The middle of the pack saw Delaney Moore run a 13:57, Ashlynn Zawacki finish with a 14:06 and Emily Youngren round out the team with an 18:40.
The final win of the outing was the junior high boys, who defeated the Beavers 21-50. Ethan Gus (11:24), Connor Schwoz (11:55) and Mason Chapman (11:57) ran sub 12-minute times for the Dragons, finishing in second, third and fourth place. Cole Enos (12:03), Zane Getner (12:49), Jaxon Warner (12:54) and Oliver Drescher (12:57) ran great races as well. Chase Lindell (13:32), Trenton Wright (13:35), Daniel Cull (14:59), Liam Johnson (15:14), Eli Lutton (15:30) and Landon Lutton (15:31) were big contributors in the win.
