FRANKLIN — Dragons win!

Dragons win!

The Warren Dragons finally broke their 26-game losing streak and experienced the feeling of winning for the first time in quite some time Friday night, beating Franklin 14-6 in Region 6 play.

“From an entertainment standpoint, you can’t beat this,” longtime Dragons football commentator Tim Juliano said on a broadcast of the game. “Everyone has been riveted by the action.”

Juliano noted everybody in the booth was on their toes during the final plays of the game.

The Dragons struck first on a rushing touchdown by Aiden Eger to take the lead 7-0. The defense held firm and stout and managed to hold the Knights scoreless in the first half.

The third quarter saw Franklin drive down the field to successfully make a 25-yard field goal with 5:45 to go to tighten the lead 7-3.

An I-formation pitch to sophomore Ayden Corbett was exactly what the Dragons needed late into the third quarter as he took it 48 yards for the second Dragons touchdown of the evening. Charlie Blum drilled the extra point to take a 14-3 lead.

The Knights weren’t going away. Franklin was successful on another field goal attempt with 9:11 left in the fourth quarter, meaning they were a touchdown and 2-point conversion from tying the game.

Warren was in clock-management mode, but eventually the Knights possessed the ball to try to tie it up.

The Dragons stopped Franklin on a fourth down with 21 seconds remaining to force a turnover on downs.

Turnovers nearly cost the Dragons, but they were at long last able to end a game with their own victory formation.

Friday night was a much-needed sigh of relief for the Warren football program.

Quarterback Brady Shene went 2 of 5 for 9 yards and Parker Kiser went 1 of 4 for 17 yards.

The run game saw Ayden Corbett rush nine times for 79 yards and a touchdown, and Aiden Eger run 16 times for 106 yards and a touchdown.

Warren will host Cathedral Prep next Thursday for a 7 p.m. varsity kickoff at War Memorial Field.

Starting at $3.50/week.
