UNION CITY — Take your pick. There were plenty of outstanding performances from Eisenhower in its 48-6 Region 3 win over Union City on Friday night.

Logan Penley rushed for 126 yards on 13 carries and scored three touchdowns, while added two receptions for 41 yards and another TD, Nolan Gesing collected 68 yards on the ground and found the end zone twice and quarterback Joe Gigliotti completed 4 of 6 passes for 81 yards and another TD.

It was that kind of evening for the Knights, who raised their record to 5-1.

“I was incredibly proud of the entire team,” Eisenhower head coach Jim Penley said. “I thought the offensive line opened up some huge holes for Logan and Nolan. I also thought Joe Gigliotti did a nice job for us at quarterback. We always have to be ready and coach our guys to be the next man up and that paid off for us tonight as we had some guys in different spots, and they did a tremendous job for us. I thought Greyson Linkerhof had a great game for us on both sides of the line. He made some big plays and opened up some huge holes for our backs.”

The Knights scored touchdowns on their first six possessions.

Gesing had a 45-yard kickoff return to set Eisenhower up at the Bears’ 30. Penley scored the first of his four touchdowns on a 5-yard scamper. Bryceton Wilkins connected on the first of his five PAT kicks to make it 7-0 knight with just 1:31 gone in the first quarter.

Logan Penley added a 6-yard touchdown run and Gesing a 4-yard touchdown run to put the Knights up 20-0 with 9:57 remaining in the second quarter.

Eisenhower’s defense forced a Union City fumble and it was recovered by Carson Sobkowski on the Bears’ 40-yard line. A beautiful one-handed catch by Hudson Haight set up Penley’s third touchdown of the first half on a 7-yard run to put the Knights up 27-0.

Eisenhower’s defense stepped up again as Logan Penley stepped in front of a Union City receiver for an interception to stop a Bears’ drive with 3:56 remaining in the half. The Knights drove 58 yards before Logan Penley would take a short swing pass 35 yards for his fourth and final touchdown.

“I thought Logan had a great game,” Coach Penley said. “He ran hard and really stepped up with Jakubczak out.”

Eisenhower’s special teams forced a fumble on the ensuing kickoff, and Gesing scored on a 22-yard touchdown run. After Wilkins’ point-after kick, the Knights led 41-0 at the half.

Eisenhower cleared the bench in the second half and added a 2-yard touchdown run by Wyatt Trojanowski. Chase Card added the PAT kick to make it 48-0.

The Knights will play a rare Saturday afternoon game next week when they entertain Seneca at 1 p.m.

Starting at $3.50/week.
