Dragon girls tennis falls to Fairview
The Warren girls tennis team hosted the Fairview Tigers on Tuesday and was defeated by the defending District 10 AAA champions 5-0.
“We knew what we were getting into today, but we were happy with how our girls played,” reported head coach Thomas Pellegrino.
Following is the scoring summary: first singles, Vivian Liu (F) defeated Lucy Harrison (W) 6-1, 6-1; second singles, Grace Liu (F) defeated Alannah Garza (W) 6-0, 6-0; third singles, Mackenzee Jewell (F) defeated Grace Carlson (W) 6-1, 6-0; first doubles, Emiko Munekata and Erika Munekata (F) defeated Sarah Harvey and Scotlynn Perry (W) 6-0, 6-2; and second doubles, Ellie Demers and Jenna Szklenski (F) defeated Jade Stewert and Alice Watt (W) 6-1, 6-0.
“It is never fun to get beat like this, but we will get back to work tomorrow and prepare for McDowell,” Pellegrino said. “We got to see some new faces in our lineup today as Stewert and Watt made their varsity debut. They stepped in for (Olivia) Romanosky and (Brady) Caudill who are both getting over some injuries suffered in the Mercyhurst match on Monday.”
Warren is now 4-2 on the season and 2-2 in region play. The Dragons travel to Erie on Thursday to take on McDowell in an important AAA region match as the winner will be second in the AAA standings behind Fairview.
