Jayvee football
The Warren Area High School junior varsity football team hosted Franklin on Monday at War Memorial Field. It was touchdowns galore as the Dragons had very strong performances from the squad, leading to a 67-6 victory over the Knights.
The first quarter saw the Dragons get off to a hot start from Tucker Sanford running for a 51-yard touchdown, as well as a 12-yard touchdown run. Grant May contributed to the offensive attack, rushing for a 19-yard touchdown to increase the Dragons’ lead to 21-0.
Warren didn’t slow down in the second quarter with May throwing a 31-yard touchdown pass to Cam Hagg. May had another rushing touchdown, this one going for 37 yards. The half ended with a Franklin touchdown, but Ryder Wagner added his own rushing touchdown for 38 yards, and made his own extra point.
Warren blanked the Knights in the second half, but tallied four more touchdowns. The third quarter saw Tucker Sanford rushing for an 11-yard touchdown and then played stout defense as he recovered a Franklin fumble and took it to the house for a 2-yard score. May added another touchdown as he completed a 48-yard TD pass to Patrick Ross.
Collin Havers added his own 4-yard touchdown run for the final score of the evening. Wagner converted 7 of 10 extra points, and the Dragons combined for 315 rushing yards. Leading the offense were Sanford, who rushed for 104 yards, and May, who completed 2 of 3 passes for 69 yards.
Defensively, Sanford recovered a fumble and intercepted a pass, Carter Campbell also had an interception, and Havers recorded a sack.
Warren will be back in action Saturday at Cathedral Prep. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m.
