WARREN — The Warren boys fell to McDowell 3-2 on a windy, rainy Thursday evening at War Memorial Field.
Warren’s first goal came during the first half from Gabe Dougherty, assisted by Mason Warner.
With 7:35 remaining in the second half, Quinn Norris buried a 36-yard free kick to cut the Trojans lead to one.
However, in a hard-fought battle in the pouring rain, the Trojans prevailed.
“We knew going into the game that we’d spend a lot of time without the ball,” Warren head coach Steffen Blair said. “We did well to limit their chances and close down space in dangerous areas, and our back line held up well all night, with Luc (Wilkins) really stepping up as a leader in the center. Unfortunately, we gave up a couple goals that we really should have avoided, and that ended up being the difference in the game.”

Warren goalkeeper Adon Maier recorded six saves on the evening.
The Dragons’ steals leaders for the evening were Luc Wilkins with 24, Quinn Norris with 23 and Trey Carrington with 19.
“This was a good test for us and we’ll be better for it,” Blair said. “I’m proud of how the boys battled back after going down 3-1, and Quinn’s free kick was a big moment that got us back into the game.”
McDowell won the jayvee matchup 2-0.
Warren will be back in action Tuesday when it travels to General McLane for a 6 p.m. match.
“I am very proud of how the team has developed after losing so much talent. Our young guys have really stepped up into where they were needed. It was a tough game but we never gave up,” said Norris, one of Warren’s senior captains. “I am really proud of how Luc has commanded the center back role this season, and he owns the defense. I can’t wait to see what we have ahead of us.”
