In a region that included General McLane, Cathedral Prep, McDowell and Harbor Creek — at a combined 63-24 overall, Valencia was voted a first-team all-star at designated hitter by the region’s coaches. The senior hit .436 with four doubles on the season.

Another senior of three on the team, Cochran was voted to the second team at utility. He batted .319 with five doubles and led the team with 10 walks.

“They both had incredible senior seasons,” said first-year head coach John White. “The last four years, we’ve been looking forward to these two coming into their own as they grew as players and they certainly did this year. It was awesome to see Felix finally get over the hump this year and show how great of a hitter he is. It’s something our staff has seen from him in practices and in JV his sophomore year, but this year he finally spring-boarded and it was awesome to see. Carter was probably the most unlucky hitter I’ve ever seen in a season. He could very easily have broken the batting average record this year with the amount of times he hit the ball hard directly at someone or an outfielder made a spectacular catch to get him out.

“Another player that I think should also be recognized is Eli Snyder,” said White. “He put up great numbers and played the toughest position on the field and defensively did a lot of great things for us that helped our pitchers out. Unfortunately, the catcher position in our region is incredibly deep and you have to play a near-perfect season to be selected. I’m looking forward to seeing what he has in store for next year.”
