On Friday evening, the Eisenhower Knights football coaches got their first look at the team that will play this fall, a team that will have a different look with players from three schools coming together to form the new-look Eisenhower football team.
“I had a person who traveled to watch the game said that from afar it appeared to him that this was a very close team, and was impressed that it was the first time players from three different schools played under game-like conditions,” Eisenhower head coach Jim Penley said.
It may have been the first time playing together, but there were consistencies from last year’s team that gave a hint of what’s to come this fall for the Knights.
Caleb Jakubczak, a 6-foot-4 quarterback and defensive back, had a big game. The senior had a hand in five touchdowns on the night. He rushed for 95 yards and passed for 112 yards with two touchdowns. Defensively he alone had four interceptions while returning three of those for touchdowns in the Blue team’s 42-6 victory.
The Blue team, consisting of seniors and incoming freshmen, put on quite a defensive effort as they totaled six interceptions total, with Logan Penley and Bryden Baker adding one apiece. Senior Peyton Hammerbeck had five receptions for 98 yards and a touchdown.

Gavin Lindemuth, a 6-foot-5 wide receiver and defensive end, had a nice game for the Blue team as well. The senior had a touchdown and two sacks. Cash Moore had four tackles for loss and two sacks. Grayson Linkerhoff added two tackles for loss.
The Gold team’s points belonged to sophomore Oliver Boozer, who intercepted Jakubczak and returned it 18 yards for a score.
Penley was encouraged by the Knights play.
“I thought we had a great week of practice,” he said. “A lot of these guys are communicating and working out on their own, and it really showed last week. I am pretty excited, based on what I’ve seen and hopefully where we are going, and in talking with these guys and their parents, they all seem to be pretty excited.”
The Knights will open next season against Greenville.
