Youngsville beats Eisenhower 11-7 in Region 3

RUSSELL — The Youngsville Eagles and the Eisenhower Knights have played some memorable softball games over the years.

With the two schools merging next year, Tuesday’s Region 3 game was the last time they’ll play before these opponents become teammates. For now, the bragging rights belong to the Eagles, as they went on the road to defeat Eisenhower 11-7.

The early highlight belonged to Eisenhower’s Tracey Jakubczak. The senior launched a shot over the left field fence to give the Knights the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.

The Eagles would get their first runs in the top of the fourth inning when Marlee Rectenwald connected for a double driving in two runs and put Youngsville up 2-1.

Eisenhower would get the lead back in its half of the fourth inning when Alexis Pascuzzi and Aliza Olsen each hit RBI singles to put the Knights back in the lead 4-2 after five innings.

The Eagles would score three runs in the top of the fifth inning led by RBI singles by Alyssa Gentz and Ireland Abraham to take a 5-4 lead.

Eisenhower retook the lead in its half of the inning when they plated three runners to take a 7-5 lead. Nikita Nelson and Hailey Highhouse singled to drive in runs.

Eisenhower’s lead was short-lived as Youngsville exploded for six runs in the top of the sixth inning to take an 11-7 lead. The Eagles scored their runs on two hits. Hailey Gentry drove in two runs on a single to lead the charge.

Youngsville was led by Abraham, who went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Hailey Gentry went 2 for 5 with three RBIs and Paige Stover doubled for the Eagles.
