Knights shine on the track at Union City

UNION CITY — The Eisenhower girls track & field team used the strength of three relay race victories for a narrow 75-72 win over Union City on Tuesday at Union City High School.

Eisenhower’s boys team was defeated by the Bears by a 90-56 count.

The Lady Knights’ three relay wins came courtesy of Laney Belcher, Emily Grosch, Izzy Grosch and Peyton Kellogg (4×800, 12:12.4); Belcher, Marissa Gourley, Lainey Font and Leah Morrison (4×100, 55.3); and Belcher, Emily Grosch, Font and Morrison (4×400, 4:33.5).

Rosalie Rondeau was a two-time individual winner with victory in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 1.5 inches and the triple jump with a leap of 31-11. Other individual winners included Emily Grosch in the 800 (2:37.6), Kellogg in the 1,600 (6:16.8), Gourley in the 100 hurdles (17.5), Callie Delp in the 3,200 (15:10), Sophia Martin in the pole vault (8-0) and Bryn Lindell in the high jump (4-9).

Runner-up finishes were recorded by Belcher in the 400, Gourley in the 300 hurdles, Rondeau in the 100 and Kaliann Waite in the shot put. Kellogg added a third in the 800, Font was third in the 400 and high jump, Gracie Tomassoni was third in the javelin, Hialeah Stanton was third in the pole vault and Autumn Howick had a pair of thirds in the shot put and discus.

Despite coming out on the losing end of the final score, Eisenhower’s boys had plenty of winners during Tuesday’s competition. Joe Gigliotti was a two-time winner, claiming the 1,600 in 4:45.1 and the 3,200 in 11:33.7.

Other individual winners for the Knights were T.J. McAulay in the 110 hurdles in 18.2 seconds, Ryan Chambers in the 100 in 12.1 seconds, Easton Fitzgerald in the 200 in 24.9 seconds, Joe Mistretta in the 400 in 53.5 seconds and JE Unida in the pole vault by clearing six feet.

Also victorious on Tuesday were Eisenhower’s 4×100 relay team of Chambers, Fitzgerald, Michael Palmieri and Bryceton Wilkins (48.9) and the 4×400 team of Fitzgerald, Palmieri, Wilkins and Mistretta (3:51.8).

Runner-up finishes were claimed by Mistretta in the 800, Seth Jensen in the shot put and Joel Sorrell in the discus. Sorrell was also third in the shot put and Chambers was third in the long jump.
