Huskies hand Warren first loss

HARBORCREEK — Alana Stuart held off Harbor Creek for four innings Monday, but four Warren errors in the last two innings led the Huskies to a 10-0 six-inning Region 6 home win.

The Huskies scored a run in the bottom of the first, but led just 1-0 on three hits off Stuart after four innings.

“We hung with them,” said Warren coach Carissa Stuart, whose Lady Dragons are 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the region. “Alana (seven strikeouts) was pitching good, and our defense was making plays. We have to find ways to stay strong in the last couple innings, defensively and offensively.”

Harbor Creek (2-0 in Region 6) had four hits and took advantage of a Warren error to score four times in the bottom of the fifth inning. Three more Warren errors in the sixth led to the 10-run-rule win for the Huskies.

NCAA Division I Akron University commit Addison Lucas threw a no-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts for Harbor Creek.

Warren did leave six runners on base, reaching by four walks and two errors.

“Mental toughness is what it comes down to,” said Coach Stuart. “We learned what we need to work on and now we need to take care of business the rest of the week.”
