Dragons beat Clarion in 5 sets
CLARION — Warren won another five-setter on Monday, this time at perennial Class A power Clarion, and this time after being down 0-2.
“After a slow start, we finally started to find some confidence in set three,” said Warren coach Mike Dolan, whose Class 3A Dragons won 16-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-15, 15-7 over the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association’s top-ranked 1A team in the state. “Before that, it was really hard to find the floor against their defense and Clarion was dictating the pace on offense for sure. Libero Malysia Sorensen had a big game on defense and in serve-receive. This was a nice win for the girls, showing their mental toughness and resilience. Playing these tough non-region games should pay dividends for us down the road, so we’re glad to be able to schedule great teams and programs like Clarion.”
Senior setter Lindsay Madigan finished with 40 assists, 10 digs, eight aces and six kills. Madelyn Nosel had 18 kills and 11 digs, and Maddy Jones 17 kills and 13 digs for unbeaten Warren (7-0).
Malysia’s Sorensen had 26 digs at libero, and Paiden Johnson and Sophie Walker four digs apiece. Attie Corey contributed five kills and Lauren Fajbik added three blocks.
“Lindsay Madigan almost had a triple-double and played another outstanding game,” said Dolan, “and Attie Corey gave us a huge boost when she came in. Sophie Walker and Paiden Johnson had some big serves and digs and Maddy and Madelyn both came up big when it counted. Back at the Region 5 tilt on the road (Tuesday) at Harbor Creek.”
Warren’s junior varsity team lost in two games 19-25, 22-25.
Paiden Johnson had 16 digs; Addison Ristau four digs; Brooke Sherry six kills and three digs; Brynn Norris seven assists; Hailey Cabisca four kills and an ace; and Michaela Dolan five assists and an ace.
