Sandwiched between Cathedral Prep’s pitcher of the year in Jason Fultz, who is headed to Clemson University, and player of the year in Andrew Costello, who will play for Wake Forest, Zdarko was voted a first-team region all-star at outfield, Dippold a second-teamer at utility, and Berdine a second-team all-star at both pitcher and first base.

“I am really proud of those three — all three were very deserving, and I’m very happy to see them get some recognition,” said Warren coach Andrew Morrison, whose Dragons finished the season 7-10 overall in a region in which Prep finished unbeaten on its way to a ninth consecutive District 10 championship. “That is a very talented list of kids to be recognized with.

“Aidan making first team is a really cool accomplishment,” said Morrison. “He was awesome all year. He beat out a couple of D1 commits to get that first-team bid. He’s a competitive kid and I’m really happy for him.”

Zdarko hit .362 with 21 hits, including four doubles and a home run, and 16 RBI, which was most on the team.

“‘Dip’ (Dippold) started a little slow this year, but he was on fire at the end of the year,” said the coach. “He was the definition of a utility player; he played all four infield spots for us and hit in five different spots in the order. This is his second year in a row making the team, which is hard to do.”

Dippold batted .314 (with a .462 on-base percentage), including six doubles, two homers and 16 runs scored.

“Brady (who will pitch at Gannon University), in my mind, was the second best pitcher in the region behind Fultz, but still happy to see him make the second team there,” added Morrison. “He probably could have been a multi-year kid, too, but that’s a hard group to crack when there’s only four spots. I was really happy to see him make it at first base, too. He took an enormous step forward for us offensively this year and was one of the best all-around players in the district.”

Berdine hit .339 with a .409 OBP, nine doubles, one home run and only five strikeouts over 66 plate appearances.

On the mound, he had a 1.30 Earned Run Average over 37-2/3 innings, striking out 63 and walking just 16, holding the opposition to a .166 batting average against.
