RUSSELL — The Eisenhower Knights concluded their spring football practices last week with the 20th year of the annual Blue-Gold game.
The game is an opportunity for head coach Jim Penley and his staff to get a look at new and younger players and to see what they have absorbed from the practices.
“I thought it was a good week of camp, the coaches and I saw a lot of good things from some of the young players,” Penley said. “Now comes the hard work of getting ready for the regular season.”
The Blue-Gold game is traditionally seniors and freshmen on the blue team vs. the gold team made up of sophomores and juniors. The blue team won 18-12.
The blue team was led by Jaydon Chase and Ryan Chambers, who combined for 142 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Quarterback Joe Gigliotti had 100 rushing yards and 95 passing yards.
The gold team was led by junior quarterback Caleb Jakubczak, who had 85 yards rushing and a touchdown. Fellow junior tailback Logan Penley was right behind him with 64 yards on the ground and a touchdown.
The senior-heavy offensive line excelled opening holes, and sophomore Carson Sobkowski anchored the defensive line with several stops in the backfield.
