Warren’s track and field teams had big days on Tuesday, sweeping visiting Union City at War Memorial Field.

The biggest day was from senior Laney Gatto, who has had her eyes on the school record in pole vault. She didn’t break Emily Thomas’ 19-year-old record of 9-foot-6 once, but four times on Tuesday. Gatto vaulted 9-7, 10-1, 10-7 and 11-1 to finish first by four feet in the Lady Dragons’ 122-27 victory to improve to 2-0.

“I started working with Coach (Joe) Sanford the summer prior to my junior year,” said Gatto. “I didn’t know what to expect at that time since it was so new to me. I was happy with my progress my junior year and breaking the school record quickly became one of my goals.

“It was really exciting to break the record at a home meet,” she said. “I am very thankful for Coach Sanford’s wisdom, encouragement and, most of all, for believing in me. I would not be where I am without him. … I am glad my hard work is paying off and I look forward to accomplishing more this season.”

Warren’s depth in talent dominated the meet, including wins in the 400-meter dash by Lilly Newton (1:05.05 to 1:05.18 by UC’s Ava Reagle, who won the 100 and 200). Newton also won high jump at 4-10.

In a dominating effort, Morgan Alexander won the 800 (2:43.26), 1,600 (5:46), and 3,200 (12:49.71). Teammate Brynn Norris was second in the 800 and 1,600.

Lindsay Madigan won the javelin at 95 feet, 3 inches, and the triple jump in 32 feet. She was second in the 100, behind Reagle, in 13.32 seconds.

Teammate Adison Cullers won the 100 hurdles in 18.57 seconds, and was edged by half a second in the 300 hurdles.

Aurora Feaster and Zoe Rodgers were 1-2 in discus with 79-06 and 78-07, respectively.

Kylie Fehlman won shot in 32 feet, 6 inches ahead of teammates Feaster, Katie Seamens and Rodgers.

Gracie Page won long jump in 14-03.

“We saw a lot of kids improve upon their performances from a couple weeks ago,” said Warren coach Kevin Dustin. “We hope to see more of this as we move into the second half of the season with more meets and invitationals. Special recognition goes out to Laney Gatto for smashing the school record in the pole vault… She worked hard to get to where she is working with Coach Sanford. Big congratulations to Laney — well done.”

In Warren’s 83-66 boys win, Johnny Corbett won the 100 in 12.14 seconds, finishing 1-2-3 with Tommaso Clemente (12.19) and Adam Yeager (12.36). Corbett also won the 200 in 25.06 seconds, edging Yeager and Clemente.

Sam Lindell won both the 800 (2:15.73) and 1,600 (4:50.55) with Quinn Norris a close second in both events. Matt Sowa won the 3,200 in 12:28.53.

Scott Nichols edged teammate Patrick Ross, 51.45-51.79, in the low hurdles, and Nichols won the 110 high hurdles in 19.22 seconds.

Andrew Haight easily won discus with 119 feet.
