JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — Jamestown had no answer for Edward Dyson III and Arsenio Arrington on Friday night.

The Albany duo combined for 60 points on 24-of-37 shooting as the Patroons beat the Jackals 119-107 in The Basketball League action at Jamestown Community College’s Physical Education Complex.

Dyson poured in 35 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, while Arrington added 25 points and four blocked shots as third-place Albany improved to 7-3 in the Atlantic Northeast Division.

“One of our struggles lately has been matching physicality. A lot of teams now realize that we can play, so they’ll be super physical with us,” Jamestown head coach Raheem Singleton said postgame. “We’ve been struggling to make that adjustment.”

David Jasson came off the bench to score a team-high 21 points for fifth-place Jamestown, which lost its third straight game to fall to 5-6.

Albany led for more than 22 minutes of the first half, but Jamestown’s Derrick Colter scored with 1:30 remaining in the second quarter to tie the game at 49-all. The Patroons then finished the frame on an 8-0 run, highlighted by three-point plays from both Trevis Wyche and Dyson, to lead 57-49 at halftime.

“I wouldn’t say it was tough to defend. … I think their physicality kinda got to us,” Singleton said. “It’s tough. We’re trying to get our guys to realize we have to match their physicality if we want the referees to change the way they are calling it.”

The Jackals closed their deficit to two early in the third quarter on an 8-0 run that included a 3-pointer from Joshua Dominguez and another bucket from Colter, but Albany answered with a 13-0 run that included another 3-pointer from Dyson and a putback by Jaquan Newton after two missed Patroons free throws.

“It’s just about toughness. They didn’t have a lot of size, they had some taller guys, but they didn’t play physical. They had one guy play in the post, but their guards played physical with our size,” Singleton said. “We actually felt like we had an advantage inside if our bigs actually played strong.”

Connor Kelley, who finished with 18 points for Jamestown, hit a 3-pointer with 39.6 seconds remaining in the third quarter to make it a two-point game, but again Albany closed the quarter on a 6-0 run, capped by Newton’s three-point play with 1 second showing on the clock that made it 82-74 entering the fourth quarter.

The Patroons opened the final 12 minute-period on a 9-0 run and the Jackals never got closer than 12 the rest of the way.

“It’s a game of runs, but for us everybody on our team knows it’s about defense,” Singleton said. “Really making sure our guys buckle down and get stops is what we didn’t do today and they made us pay.”

Colter, who entered the game ninth in league scoring at 24.1 points per game, finished with just 13. He scored just 5 in the second half, guarded mostly by Albany’s Jamil Hood Jr.

The Patroons finished the game 46 of 81 (56.8%) from the field and outscored Jamestown 60-46 in the paint.

Albany also scored 19 points off 20 Jackals turnovers.

“Because they felt like they weren’t going to get the foul, I feel like our guys kinda took their foot off the gas,” Singleton said. (The Patroons) were constantly attack, attack, attack. I think that was the difference in those points off turnovers.”

Jamestown returns to action this evening when it travels to Canada to take on the Kitchener Waterloo Titans in a nonleague game. Next Friday, the Jackals will host the Glass City Wranglers at 7 p.m. and next Sunday at 3 p.m. the Tri-State Admirals will visit the Physical Education Complex.

NOTES: Stephon Auguste had 11 points, while Brent Price and Lorenzo Collier each had 10 for Jamestown. Troy Baker led the Jackals in rebounding with eight. … Jamestown shot 39 of 82 (47.6%) from the field, including 10 of 27 (37%) from 3-point range. … Albany won the rebounding battle 46-44.
