4 Lady Dragons named all-region
After a 22-6 season in which the Warren girls basketball team won its first ever PIAA state playoff game, four Lady Dragons have been named Region 5 all-stars.
Seniors Sammie Ruhlman and Halle Kuzminski, both playing college basketball beginning this fall, were named first-team all-stars by a vote of the region’s coaches. Junior teammates Alana Stuart and Alyssa Farr were named second-team all-stars.
Ruhlman, who will play at Division II D’Youville, averaged 10 points, 6.2 assists, 5.2 rebounds and 3.3 steals.
Kuzminski, a Penn State Altoona commit, scored 9.3 points with 7.5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2.5 steals.
Stuart averaged 8 points, 5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.2 steals.
Farr averaged 7.5 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.1 steals, and she shot 35% from 3-point range.
“It speaks volumes to the work these ladies and our entire team has put in,” said Warren coach Lisa LaVan. “They are an unselfish bunch that just enjoys winning any way possible. On any given night, any one of these four and even a couple others could crush opponents. They are better together, though. Night in and night out, they just went to work and went to battle together. I am one proud coach. We are the only public school on the girls side to get four on. The other three were (Cathedral) Prep, Mercyhurst Prep and Kennedy (Catholic).”
