A win is a win is a win. But some are more exciting.

Warren’s girls swim team is 2-0 this week with a 45-point win on Monday over Bradford, and a one-point win — 91-90 — on Thursday over Titusville at the Warren County YMCA.

“That meet was tight the whole way,” said Warren coach Russ Beyer. “I don’t think anyone was up more than 10 (points). Seemed like (the lead) changed after each event.”

The Lady Dragons were led by a couple of two-time individual winners. Katie Krogler was first in the 200-meter freestyle in 2:26.12 and the 400-meter freestyle in 5:13.02; Samantha Caudill won the 200-meter individual medley in 2:46.82 and 100-meter breaststroke in 1:26.83.

Krogler was also part of Warren’s winning 200-meter freestyle relay with Leyna Irwin, Emma Peterson and Lilly Newton.

Freshman Gracie Page won the 1-meter diving event with a district-qualifying 174.1 points. Teammates Eliza Brook and Kinzlea Chase finished third and fourth, respectively, out of six divers to earn points.

With every team point valuable, Irwin was second in the 100-meter freestyle and third in the 50-meter freestyle. Newton was third in the 50-meter freestyle. Peterson was third in the 200-meter freestyle and 400-meter freestyle. Madeline Walker was third in the 100-meter backstroke. Jennifer Giger was third in the 200-meter individual medley.

“Everyone competed and contributed to the win,” said Beyer. “A lot of seconds, thirds, fourths and fifths. Each point made a big difference.”

For Warren’s two-swimmer boys team (in a 106-22 loss), Drake Niemetz was first in the 100-meter freestyle in 58.73 seconds and 200-meter freestyle in 2:08.10. Brody Alexander won the 400-meter freestyle in 5:26.53, and was second in the 50-meter freestyle. This accounted for three firsts and a second in just four events swam.
