Knights suffer softball loss

ERIE — The Eisenhower softball team traveled to Iroqouis for a rare 3 p.m. game and suffered a 14-4 setback.

The Knights jumped in front in the top of the first inning when Hailey Gray hit into a fielder’s choice to drive in a run. The lead would prove to be short lived as the Braves pushed across three runs to take a 3-1 lead.

Eisenhower added a pair of runs in the top of the second inning to tie the game at 3-3 thanks to a walk by Kendra Danielson and Nakita Nelson, which each produced a run.

An Eisenhower error led to an Iroquois run to put the Braves back in front 4-3 in the bottom of the second inning, an advantage they wouldn’t relinquish. The Braves scored three runs in the third inning to eventually build their lead to 9-3 before Eisenhower pushed a late run across in the top of the sixth when Abbie Darr hit into a fielder’s choice to drive in a run to make the score 9-4.

Sammie Childs took the loss for the Knights. The right-hander gave up eight hits and seven runs (five earned) over four innings. She struck out three and walked none.

Offensively, Eisenhower was led by Morgan Zaffino and Caitlyn Pikna, who each had a pair of hits. Nelson, Pikna and Gray each drovein a run. The middle of the Knights infield turned a pair of double plays.

The Knights are back in action today when they welcome Union City to Werner Park for a 4 p.m. game.
