Warren boys well represented on Region 4 all-star teams
After graduating eight seniors from the 2022 team, new Warren boys soccer head coach Steffen Blair wasn’t sure what he’d have left.
This fall, the Dragons started 0-3 before finishing 12-6-1 overall and 12-2 in Region 4, advancing to the District 10 2A playoffs.
On Thursday, four underclassmen — juniors Chase Sitler, Gavin Rex and Finn Ordiway, and sophomore Quinn Norris — were voted Region 4 First-Team all-stars, and three others — senior Dakota Sliter, junior Casey Rich and sophomore Jack Chapman — were named to the Second Team.
In addition to being voted first team all-Region 4 by the region’s coaches, Sitler was named to the all-District 10 Second Team by Erie Times-News. A three-year starter and letter winner, Sitler was switched to centerback on defense and finished with 200 steals in 19 games. He was named team MVP by Warren’s coaches.
Rex, team co-captain, was named a region all-star at forward for the second straight season. A second-teamer as a sophomore, Rex was voted to the first team this season after six goals, seven assists and 124 steals.
The team’s Offensive Player of the Year, Ordiway led the Dragons with 17 goals and 38 points, and added 120 steals at midfield.
Cracking the starting lineup, Norris led Warren with 215 steals at midfield and added six assists in 18 games. He was the team’s Defensive Player of the Year.
“I’m very proud of all of the work our boys have put in, and it’s a nice bonus that it’s being noticed by coaches across the region and district as well,” said Blair. “The boys are very deserving of the honor. This wasn’t just earned through great performances throughout the season; it is a reflection of years of dedication, hard work, and passion for the sport. We have a great group, and these individual honors wouldn’t be possible without the support of each one of them.”
Joining Sitler, Ordiway and Norris as first-time all-stars, Chapman (from a cooperative agreement with Sheffield High School) had 16 goals and four assists for the Dragons at forward. Rich finished with 121 steals, a goal and two assists at left back on defense. Sliter, a team co-captain and the lone Warren senior voted an all-star by the region’s coaches, helped to anchor a restructured defense with 122 steals.
Of the Dragons’ 21-man roster, two were seniors.
For 7-11 overall Eisenhower boys soccer, which was 5-9 in Region 4, senior centerback Abraham Wolf and junior forward Logan Degnan were also voted second-team region all-stars.
