After a busy week, Warren’s girls tennis team finished off Region 2 play on Thursday with a 4-1 win over McDowell at Betts Park.
“After the busy week we had, it was nice to finish it off by grabbing a win for our last home match of the season,” said Warren coach Thomas Pellegrino. “Our girls have now moved to 12-3 on the year, and have tied for second place in Region 2 with Fairview. Both of these are major accomplishments for our program.”
At first singles, Iris Kiehl defeated Lina Warrier, 6-2, 6-2.
Mary Gerace defeated Markella Nacopoulos, 6-1, 6-2, at second singles.
At third singles, Lucy Harrison defeated Ally McAdams, 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles, Izzy Heacox and Natasha Ferry lost to the duo of Asheen Udgiri and Madison Stephens, 4-6, 1-6.
In second doubles, Grace Carr and Alannah Garza defeated Jayoung Kim and MaryJane Mouborab, 6-2, 6-1.
“We were really impressed with how the girls played today considering the pressing week we had,” said Pellegrino of the Dragons’ fourth straight day of competition. “Defeating McDowell is no easy task, but our girls were on a mission to get that 12th win.
“We’re giving the kids a day off tomorrow to rest up, but will be hitting the road again this Saturday as Warren’s top three singles players will be traveling to Erie for the D10 singles tournament,” added Pellegrino. “As far as the team goes, we are in the D10 semifinal and have found out we will be playing the Region 1 champion Grove City on October 17. With (Thursday) more than likely being our last home match this season, the one thing I want to say is thank you to everyone who has come out and supported our squad this year. It’s been amazing to see so many new faces coming to these matches and supporting our girls. We hope to keep this ball rolling and have some success at the district events coming up over the next two weeks.”
