Cochranton overpowers Youngsville 24-8 in softball

YOUNGSVILLE — The first inning of Wednesday’s softball game between the Youngsville Eagles and Cochranton Cardinals was bombs away.

The Cardinals started the game with an 11-run first and the Eagles answered back with seven runs of their own in the bottom half. However, in the end, it was Cochranton leaving Youngsville High School with a 24-8 victory.

“Things started out rough but we did some battling back and got some runs across the plate which was nice to see,” said Youngsville coach Scott Ishman. “Hopefully it’s something we can carry over into Thursday’s game with Rocky Grove.”

After Cochranton jumped out to the 11-0 lead, Hailey Gray started things off with a base hit in the bottom of the first. Kamden Swearingen followed with a two-run home run and the Eagles were on the board.

Alyssa Gentz, Ireland Abraham, Raechel Lucks, Madison Carnahan and Vanessa Romanosky also scored in the opening frame for Youngsville.

Swearingen, Gray and Lucks all finished with two hits in defeat. Gentz, Molly Helman, Carnahan and Marissa VanGuilder all added one hit apiece. Swearingen had a double to go with the homer and Helman also doubled for the Eagles.

Youngsville returns to action today, hosting Rocky Grove.

Starting at $3.50/week.
