Bryan homers in Dragons’ 9-3 Wednesday loss

ERIE — An exciting start didn’t last for the Warren baseball team Wednesday as the Dragons dropped a 9-3 Region 6 decision to Cathedral Prep.

Warren got off to an electric start off a Broc Bryan two-run home run to take an early lead against the Ramblers. For Bryan, who is just a sophomore, it was his first-career home run for the Dragons.

Cathedral Prep responded by crossing the plate in the bottom of the first to cut the Warren lead 2-1. The second inning was scoreless from both sides, but the third found Warren notching one run off a David Manning RBI, and the Ramblers tying the game at 3-3 with two runs of their own.

The Dragons could not answer in the top of the fourth, but the Ramblers did. Six runs from the home team would give Cathedral Prep its first lead of the game at 9-3. No more runs were scored from either team in the fifth before a combination of rain and thunder would end the game with the Ramblers defeating the Dragons 9-3.

Colin Zdarko was the losing pitcher, throwing 3 2/3 innings and striking out one. Charlie Blum finished the other 1 1/3 innings and also recorded a strikeout.

The winning pitcher was Prep’s Joseph Makela, who pitched two innings and had two strikeouts. Nikolas Malec pitched the first three innings for the Ramblers and recorded three strikeouts.

Bryan was the lone Dragon to record a hit in the game.

The Dragons return to the field today at 4 p.m. for a home nonregion game against the Corry Beavers at Old Legion Field.

Starting at $3.50/week.
